| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 7, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a medium golden amber with a nice 2 finger thick off white head, spotty lacing. Fairly hoppy nose with hints of floral and citrus hops with a sweet caramel background. In the finish you get a good dose of caramel then turns to hop bitterness, good stuff. obguthr (1010), Poquoson, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | Oct 7, 2009 Hoppy nose, mainly pine needles, perhaps marigold, but generous amounts of grapefruit and honey are also there. Hazy ochre, with a medium yellow head, decent lacing. Bitter and tart to begin, pine needles throughout, but finishes less bitter and heartier with lightly toasted malt. There is a light woodiness that teases the palate. Quite bitter. Decidedly not sweet, which was a most welcome change for me. An ESB-ish IPA, and very delicious. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 4, 2009 Bottle 12oz. - Poured crimson color with medium beige head. Small head is retained entire time and has good lacing!
Aroma - Awesome hop pungency along with rich caramel malt. Hope it tastes as good as it smells!!
Flavor - Caramel malt are balanced perfectly with piney/citrus hops. Definite rye taste on tongue and through finish.
Palate - medium mouthfeel and has above average carbonation. Finish is amazing and unique, it’s a combination of sweet then bitter and dry!
Overall - Founder’s does it again, a unique brew that tastes awesome!! satan165 (561), River Grove, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 29, 2009 nose is perfect blend of toffee malt, rye spiciness and strong pine/resin notes. appearance is a 5: ultra cloudy burnt sienna bordering on the namesake ’red’. flavor is one of the most well balanced menu of flavors ive come across in any style. crusty, crunchy toffee arises and is met and toppled by a superman tower of pine hops that bring a floral component as a sidekick. the horseplay between the two continues bottle after bottle. nearly a perfect beer. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 25, 2009 Updated: Nov 14, 200912 oz. bottle. Golden pour with a thick, persistent head and excellent silk-like lacing. Aroma is of malted rye and simcoe hops. The simcoe lends itself to a smell of fresh grapefruit. Flavor is a complement of sweet citrus and bitter hops with a tone of rye spice and underlying caramel malt. Palate changes midway from bitter to spicy, and dry. Finish is crisp and spicy with a touch of pine. Balance and complexity are very nice, and palate is just right -- not too thick or potent. A commendable brew, or "I’m the most terrific liar you ever saw in your life." tastybeer (33), Portland, Oregon, USA
