| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | May 3, 2007 Cloudy orange-copper body topped by an initially large beige head leaving lots of lacings. Aroma is a fruity hop-soup. Intense. Full and slightly oily body with tasty rye malts. Copiously hopped with a resulting complex hop taste. Far from the uni-dimensional pine-tree or citrus hop profile. The end result is hard-hitting, harsh, fruity but dry. Dry berries and shredded hop-cones. Harsh assertive bitterness. I don’t care about the Speciality Grain style on ratebeer. This is an IPA to me. And it may very well be my favourite non-imperial (<7%) hop-fix. Hence the ridiculously high rating. Draft in Boston it was unreal. Bottle is still great. I’m a huge fan of a generous c-hopping of a solid rye-based body (Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye Ale is another example). But honestly I can’t express the taste and/or I can’t relate it to known flavours. I just don’t have the words to describe it. Well, I have the words but they are woooa, hmmmm, hhhhaaaaaaa but I don’t think these are very useful in a rating. jgb9348 (2496), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 3, 2007 Deep hazy crimson coloured body with a very thick tannish red head with specks of brown in it. Very crazy coloured beer, but very very nice. Aroma of rye (of course) , hops, curacao, malt, and some sugars. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rye flavour in the taste up front fading to a smooth maltiness and a potent hoppiness. Aftertaste shows some alcohol, malt, curacao and of course - more rye. Overall, a very nice beer - looks amazing and tastes damn good too. Definitely worth trying if you can find this! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 02-May-2007. mrjames (21), Clinton Twp, Michigan, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 30, 2007 Pours a lightly hazy ruby red amber with a large foamy/creamy off white lacing head. Great looking beer! Aroma is a bouquet of hops with orange, pine, floral notes, caramel and hints of rye. Flavor of citrus, caramel, grapefruit, piney, toffee, nice rye notes, dry and a very nice balance of hop bitterness and malty sweetness. One excellent beer! ex (8), USA does not count | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 25, 2007 On tap at brewery; Pleasing color, nice head, gentle aroma. Surprisingly strong hop taste. Personally I would prefer fewer hops in a red of this variety but this is what the brewery is known for. Still, I was left thinking that the strong hopping overpowers the rest of what this brew could offer. A nice drink for those that love a strong hopped brew. mkofron (155), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 24, 2007 Bottle. Hazy red-amber with a thik tan head that fills the pint glass. Aroma primarily citrus, with some toffee, earth, and rye. Citric hop flavor at first with sweet malt joining in later. The rye is most evident towards the finish, and works incredibly well. Long, bitter finish. Delicious. BleacherBum (176), Blowing Rock, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 24, 2007 Dark amber color. Quickly disapating light tan head. Aroma is of big hops, rye grains, caramel and light citrus. Lots of caramel and grain in the flavor. Earthy tones and biscuit are big in here as well. Nice dark fruits and hops coming in at the end. Great malt/hop balance. Sticky mouthfeel. Medium carbonation. A fantastic beer. The rye really makes for a nice earthy, bitter and dry finish. Wish this was readily available in my area.
