Medium sweet-hoppy nose, showing lots of citrus, lemon, orange and rye. Full, hopped-up mouthfeel, rye serving as the malty backdrop - ending slightly dry, with bitterness around the edges. Nicely done rye interpretation, but that extra oomph of alcohol isn’t well-used. 7.3.7.3.14=3.4
Rerate: 12oz bottle, fresh from Michigan, courtesy of artusory. Thanks, Ryan! Pours a medium reddish-brown color with some particulates floating about; fluffy, very light tan head with fantastic retention and lacing. Lots of pine and woodsy notes in the aroma; hoppy, earthy. Medium-to-full mouthfeel, predominated by earthy rye and tea-like malts; lively carbonation; plenty of chewy citrusy hop character; balanced nicely. Lengthy finish, on the dry side, showing chewy malts and citrus. 7.4.7.4.14=3.6 unclemattie (2416), Georgia, USA

Hops, slight pine, and citrus rind on the nose. Semi-sweet bitterness, citrusy, with a nice malty background. Quite smooth and well balanced. Solid body, creamy mouthfeel. Finishes with a floral quality, smooth hop bitterness, and lingering citrus notes. I really enjoyed this one! Thanks goes out to TAR for this one!

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 23, 2004 This is one of those "Emmeril" beers - "BAM!" - the citrus hop aroma wakes you up; "BAM" - the orange red bubbly brew topped with a thick head and fantastic lacing really catches your eye; "BAM!!" the flavor - oh the flavor! - super tongue shriveling rye really coats the tongue - tastes like very sharp rye toast and cirtus grapefruit orange peel. "BAM!!!!" - the finish is like an everlasting gobstopper made of rye and hops. We may have this listed as "an ale" , but it could kick the ass of many IPA’s. More and more good brew from Founders - I’m never disappointed. aracauna (2389), Georgia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 15, 2008 The first thing that you notice is the grapefruit rind and pine hops in the aroma. but in the flavor the malt takes over with an almost chewy caramel malt. This is a very satisfying beer. Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA

It’s slighlty sweet and malty with a touch of caramel, some flowery notes and a touch of fruit. Medium bodied and smooth with a slight tingle. dkachur (2372), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA

Pours a slightly hazy vibrant red color with a thin head. Decent retention and lacing. Very dry aroma with strong citrus hops and assertive rye notes. The taste starts off fruity, with notes of citrus, particularly lime and grapefruit, peach and pear. Bitter finish of citrus hops and rye. Citrus is all over the place in this one. Medium-full bodied. eaglefan538 (2368), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 8, 2006 Poured a nice reddish orange amber color with a nice little head and decent lacing. Sedimentation everywhere, like a broken teabag and cinnamon sticks settling all over. The aroma was somewhat IPA like, caramel malts and pine hops. The flavor was citrus hops and mild pine hops over top of a somewhat sweet caramel base. The rye was only detectable in the finish, which was an odd sort of dryness behind a malty rich base. Seemed to be a cross between an amber ale and an IPA.
