| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 2, 2006 Pours a clear dark reddish brown - slightly hazy with a very pillowy looking off white head. Pleasing smooth hop aroma. Aroma is a hops with some malt aspects that give it a smooth feel. Taste begins full bodied with the malt up-front - nice dark roastiness with carmel aspects. Shortly after that comes the heavy hop presence and dryness from the rye. The finish is hop and rye bitterness. The lacing on the glass is very heavy. This is a fantastic beer from a brewery that never lets me down. radiomgb (2068), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada

Lightly bitter mouthfeel, soft body, moderate carbonation.
Finishes fairly quick, sweet.
More caramel than rye, soft but clean.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 4, 2007 bottle - Pours ruby with a big, dense head and some yeast floaters. In time, ample lacing coats the glass. The pleasant aroma smells of hops and rye. The flavor is moderate citrus hops like a good pale ale and it’s supported by well balanced rye. Medium bodied and easy to drink, a crisp finish helps make this beer very quaffable. Nicely done. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 23, 2006 Thanks to Illinismitty, a new member in Tennessee, for this one!
This pours with a disappointingly small head of off-white.
Medium red/orange hazy body.
Big ’C Hop’ aroma. Sweet in the start, the dry bitterness builds nicely providing a well balanced finish. cheapdark (2037), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 13, 2007 Thanks to Ron, on tap at Vintage Estates. Nice darkish tan head, creamy and attractive. Orangish and clear color penetrates thru this brew, darker than pale yellow. Small amount of hoppy aroma, but not over powering. The first taste comes off instant hops then it goes to fruity and friendly. After a few more sips I get some back of throat mild hop awareness. Pretty mannerly. Not quite as hoppy as pale ales, but does have a hop kick. I usually can’t appreciate hopped brews but this is almost accepatable. The finish is a culmination of medium hop bitterness and fades to a well behaved welcomed ending. Indra (2036), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 1, 2005 Aroma of fruity, citric hops (Centennial, seemingly), strong grapefruit and lemon notes with lighter hints of spice and toasty malt. Hazy deep red color with a lasting, creamy head and impressive lacing. Massively hoppy flavor profile, juicy, resinous and fruity, the middle seeing some balancing dark malt sweetness and finishing dry with a blend of intense hop bitterness and citric flavor and spicy, faintly minty rye. Palate is lush and full, body is medium. Very much like a dark IPA with added rye and quite a treat for any hop lover. bitbucket (2036), Kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 23, 2006 Bottled. Dark amber tending to red with nice sandy head. Floral nose with oranges and melon. Nicely sweet/spicy and prominently hoppy taste, with malty caramel carrying it along. Finish with a bit of pine. FROTHINGSLOSH (2036), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 21, 2009 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured an orange-caramel color with a large orange-white head. The aroma was strong fruity and floral hops with light nutty malts underneath. The flavor was strong fruity and piney hops with light caramel, nut and pepper elements and a long piney hop finish. Nice.
