| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 11, 2007 This red ale poured with a modest beige head and a strong malt aroma. The flavor is very hoppy from start to finish, with an underlying malt taste. The resulting balance makes for a very pleasant drink. frankenkitty (1903), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 10, 2006 Ah... it appears my nemesis RAYBOY01 has been the last to sample this beer. This gentleman has repeatedly thrown down the gauntlet to race me to 1000 ratings... then recants as if he simply dropped the glove. I think he is attempting to thwart my perseverance through sheer confusion, but he does not realize that  I am a juggernaut, out of control!!!!
Ahem. Yes, well... this beer pours a dark copper with a sediment haze topped with a creamy, cream-colored head. Big, harsh & almighty citrus in the aroma with juicy grapefruit. The alcohol that arrives later is strong and reminds me of my childhood and my mother trying to get my fever down through alcohol sponge baths. Bitter hops are predominant in the flavor with abundant citrus, while malts do not add sweetness as much as add depth. It may be the power of suggestion, but I could swear I also detect caraway. Hopheads rejoice, you’re really going to like this one.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 24, 2005 Hazy copper-orange body topped by a pillowy light tan head. The aroma is loaded with hops, citric and floral. Very hoppy. The flavor is a bit more complex, loads of grapefruit, pine, and some floral hoppiness, the malts are moderately sweet but are not the story here. A bit of harshness develops as it warms. Medium body. A nice beer, though it has notes of the Devil Dancer (harshness) that I am not fond of. The rye is not nearly as pronounced as in the black rye. I prefer the Hop Rod Rye from Bear Republic for a monster hoppy rye beer. I have a few more bottles will need to give them a whirl to see my opinion stays the same. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

Pours a hazy yellowish red with a one finger yellowish beige head. Aroma of spicy pine and citrus hops, also some sweet caramel malts. I will admit I’m drinking this way too cold, so I may need a third rerate. Flavor is much the same with some fresh resiny pine up front, all the while being quite spicy with a nice caramel malt backbone. Light to moderate carbonation, medium to full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Very tasty. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . All right, my first rating, so bear with me. Bottle. Pours a nice red with a moderate-sized head, which dissipates quickly, slightly cloudy. I smell hops--pine and grapefruit, which I love. Aroma kinda reminds me of Three Floyds Alpha King. I’m unable to pick out the rye , maybe due to the strong hops. Nice bitter aftertaste. I’m glad I got this one. Will have to try some other Founders brews. 7-4-7-3-17--3.8 Beerdedone (1888), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 15, 2008 12 oz. Light haze on the reddish-copper brew. Large crunchy head lasts all the way and leaves a Swiss cheese-lacing behind. Nice aroma of grapefruit, earthy resin and honeycomb. Flavor is grapefruit and orange-resin hops balanced by spicy honey, and some grainy rye on the finish. Medium body is mostly smooth, slightly oily, and sharp on the hops-’n-rye finish. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA
