Open up and there’s the nice, spicy smell of an American wheat. Pours a deep amber color under a rocky, lacy head. Taste is the same light spiciness and soft malts of the few rye beers I’ve been able to enjoy. A northwestern hop smack adds to the enjoyment. I may be rating this pretty high, but frankly it’s hard to find any fault with this little brew. Nice sticky hoppiness left on the lips, too. RAYBOY01 (1847), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Rich roasted maltiness as expected, but the twist of adding a malted rye adds another unique dimension...a chewy cereal quality. Very potent Pacific Northwest hopping...grapefruit/pine/and orange juice. Good session material. CharlesDarwin (1847), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 26, 2005 Color a red hued amber, with a thin head of off-white. Aroma a cloying aroma of oranges and resin. Flavor is sweet and deliciously hoppy, but lacks much in the way rye flavor, instead a coarse grainy tooth combined with the sticky sweet orange and lime floral. Finish is a touch grassy, mixed with lucious sweetness. LinusStick (1846), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 7, 2007 Delicious is the best way to describe it. Pour was a cloudy amber with a cute little one finger off white head. Aroma of pine and hops. Taste is a perfect balance of spice, malt and hops. The hops come out mostly in the aftertaste. How Founders gets those 3 to play nicely in the bottle and not dominate one another is why they are a great brewery! nearbeer (1842), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Large crunchy head lasts all the way and leaves a Swiss cheese-lacing behind. Nice aroma of grapefruit, earthy resin and honeycomb. Flavor is grapefruit and orange-resin hops balanced by spicy honey, and some grainy rye on the finish. Medium body is mostly smooth, slightly oily, and sharp on the hops-’n-rye finish. thegreenrooster (1841), St.louis, Missouri, USA

Its a spicy, hop and piney goodness that will leave you asking for more. Flavor is lots of piney and citrus hops with a dose of malts hits you at the end. A wonderful beer experience. Founders is bar none my favorite brewer in the world. Dorwart (1820), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 15, 2005 Decent sized light tan hea dof fine bubbles. Reduces to a thick sheet of sticky lacing. Wonderful aroma. A boat load of pine, citrus, flowers and grapefruit in there. Gotta love hops! Dry aroma also. Color is a dark orange red. Flavor is sweet like hard candy up front then mellows out to a wonderful hops palate. Little spices and a little rye. Slight bitterness but is very well balanced. Finish is bitter and dry and leaves a lingering sweet and pasty bitterness in the mouth. I really like this beer. Thanks to RoyalBrown for this one. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 13, 2005 This was excellent. Am becoming very impressed with Founders. Had this on tap at The Blind Pig in Champaign, IL. Great beer place. Dark copper body under a frothy tan head. Nice lacing and animated bubbles. Aroma of fresh citrusy hops mingled with matly sweetness and a wisp of rye. Gentle carbonation and a strong body. The flavor was predominently hops and in the most pleasant of ways. Mixed in was the matly sweetness and the hints of rye, but the hops are what grab you and entice you into more and more. A refreshing, rewarding, thoroughly enjoyable beer that would go well with most foods, especially spicy food. Yes, this is definitely a keeper.
