| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 3, 2005 12 oz bottle, courtesy of Sammy. Deep red-brown beer with a thin off-white head. Big hoppy aroma, pine, resin, and some woodsy spiciness. Sweet malts mingle behind the hoppy top notes. Vanilla aroma as well. Flavour shows the same vanilla notes, spicy hops, and a touch of peppery alcohol. Faint sweetness in the middle of the palate before a fruity cherry and citrus flavour that is quickly backed up by an assertive hop flavour and bitterness. Awesome. ¾ (5011), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 5, 2005 Glorious nose of sweet madarin oranges, marachino cherries, pineapple, cedar, and plums. A bit of a strong and bitter, burning mouth feel up front, a hint of a burnt malt flavor, but mostly this is similar to the aroma, though a little less fruity and with more of a scotch and wood flavor. A really excellent crafted beer, probably the best rye beer I’ve had. I hadn’t been a fan of them because I haven’t found one worth liking yet. Cornfield (4980), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA

Pouring a deep red color with a tan head that disappears yet laces the glass heavily, this is like a serious rye IPA in aroma and taste. The difference is definitely in the rye. Built on a solid, sweet caramel malt backbone, this is heavily hopped with orange, pine and floral scents and tastes. The rich malty body gives way to the hops, then begins to return. At that moment, there’s a burst of peppery rye spiciness giving an additional element of bitterness and flavor. There’s a sharp bitter finish that leaves the mouth watering for more. Excellent.

Couple small rings of lace. Fresh hops aromas of grapefruit flesh and orange rinds. A true hops head aroma. But as it warms some malt goodness is detected in the nose. Hops juice from the start. with fresh pine and mild citrus. Lots of malt sweetness to back this up, but not real strong. Some caramel and pale malt flavors. Finishes with a touch of acidity from the hops that seems to cleanse the palate. Enough slickness that you can feel the rye. For some reason I am back on the hops wagon and this one is carrying me to the hops field of dream. Finish with a floor malt taste that went well with the mexican food tonight. The mix with the red peppers is awesome. this is only my fourth or fifth brew from the brewery, but I will be in search for more! BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2006 Bottle: Pours a dark ruby red with an off-white creamy head. Nose is nice and floral with sweetness and hops along with lots of earthy nice rye and caramel. Very rich and pronounced. The flavor doesn’t quite have the kick you’re expecting, but the abv is such that that’s the way it is. Such hopping levels can usually only be extracted with a higher abv beer. Very nice! Finishes dry and planty with an earthy tail. Very pleasant tasting strong ale with a nice balance of hops and malts. Tmoney99 (4802), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
