Commercial Description:
Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

12 oz bottle via trade with Ohiodad (thanks Scott!). Pours a semi hazy reddish orange color. Average size beige head. Leaves lots of lace. Aroma of lemon, grapefruit, caramel and rye. Taste like is smells with some added grass flavor, with an interesting semi-hoppy lemony chalky finish and a dry rye aftertaste. Can’t say i care for the chalkiness or the rye in the finish. Starts out very nice upfront, but ends up a bit rough. I think this is likely something people will either really like or dislike...or an aquired taste. Will try this again sometime. Maybe not for my first beer of the day. Gets an extra point for having some a cool label!*****ok, 15 minutes later, i will just say this is much much better as it warms. Let is set at LEAST 10 minutes after removing from the fridge before partaking!

From a 12 oz short necked brown bottle. Very nice looking beer, i decided to use my Chimay chalice, dark, deep, luxuriant ruby red, slightly hazy with a nice sized light tan head, that dissapeared fast leaveing lashings of lace down the chalice. Quite a hoppy aroma, almost as spicy as the typical American IPA,nice and invigorating. mmm i like the taste, nice smooth sweetness at first then overwhelmed by the bitter/peppery hops witha touch of what I imagine to be rye on the sides of the tongue, this all blends in quite well leaving a good impression. Very very nice feel on the palate, luxuriant and creamy smooth but packing a potent "zing". Very drinkable ale, If I could get this in Oregon ,it would be a regular in my fridge Thanks to Jah Noth for this excellent ale!

wow, a beautifully hopped red ale. piney and floral with moderate citrus enumerations this beer is a hop lovers whore. sweet, beautiful and there whenever you need it. dry and refreshing as it helps you see the light. fruit and clean of finish (when it goddamm feels like finshing). just a touch sweet and malty. gotta try it , cause it has a great malt ecoutrament.

I have never been impressed with this. It really is just too bland for me.

Just had the blackrye ale, so now its time for the red I figure. Color is a deep red and a thin head on top. Aroma is like an IPA, strong citrus and floral notes. Flavor is a good blend of sweet malt caramel flavor and hop bitterness. The palate leans more towards the strong bite side at the end, but begins more tame. Another quality brew by founders. I expect the IPA to be just as tastey now.

ruby orange slightly cloudly color. nice creamy short tan head. sweet rye malt aroma and hop scent together. flavor is fresh grapefruit rind, hoppy bitterness. a little stone fruit flavor too. less rye malt in the flavor, but enough to keep that divergent balance.
