Aroma of huge resiny hops, some malt, some grapefruit and honeydew. Tastes very hoppy, very fruity. Tons of fruit taste including grapefruit, honeydew, even strawberries and canteloupe. Very complex aroma and flavor. I thought this was either a red ale or an Impy IPA. Super smooth, highly hoppy and fruity palate. As a hophead, I love this one, and it would be great in any style category. This is my 3rd Founders beer, and the 3rd that has earned perfection. Does God brew for Founder’s? | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 8, 2007 A lightly hazed reddish amber ale with an extra thick light moka head. Gushed on my basement carpet. A pleasant grassy aroma with light Brett notes, sweet caramel malts and herbaceous hops. In mouth, a cooked caramel malt, with strong hopping, more herbal than grapefruits, cereals, and light medicinal notes (explaining the gushing). Medium bodied. Looses points for the loss of 1/4 of the bottle on the carpet. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 16, 2005 12 oz bottle. Dark pink-red and cloudy with a full medium tan head...massive Cascade aroma, grapefruit and very sour lemons with a touch of vanilla that doesn’t quite moderate the eye-watering intensity...thick malt in the creamy body, a relief after all the acid in the nose, though citrus does come in strongly soon and almost overwhelms the beguiling mouthfeel. Peppery, intensely sour finish. bhensonb (4374), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 13, 2008 Roasted "red" malt aroma backed with a deal of hop. Mahogany color with a vigorous white head. Medium body with creamy carbonation. The flavor is smooth roasted malt with resin and citrus hop. Rye flavor comes out with time, and the balance of malt and hop is pretty good. The finish is lightly sweet and strongly hopped. Very good drink. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 31, 2005 Poured a rather clear yet dark amber. There were very large bubbles in the head. The aroma was piney hops with a kiss of oranges. There is also a nice caramel undertone. The taste is grapefruit with a bread crust finish. There is also a little caramel. I like this a lot. It is hoppy enough to keep it interesting. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 17, 2005 Strong grapefruit, resinous pine, orange and spicy rye in the aroma. Clear, amber-brown with ruby highlights and a dense, decent, fine-bubbled head that recedes to cover with some lacing. Strong and spicy orange, pine hop flavour with assertive bitterness. Medium-light body with fair carbonation. Bottle (Mar. 2005) enjoyed with beerbuzzmontreal, MartinT, Olivier_MTL, Rastacouere and Yowie. Thanks, ClarkVV! BBB63 (4271), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 6, 2005 Tap: Ruby red with initial large frothy head which fades to a ring, produced some lace. The aroma has major notes of scotch pine, grapefruit, roasted malts, caramel and a floral quality. Picked up some clove and cardamom as well. The taste is a bit bitter, hops are to the forefront but the large grist bill keeps them in check and added a nice sweetness midsection. The finish has a spicy note, some lingering bitters, and the one place to find a hint of the rye. The feel us aggressive and sharp, slightly metallic and chalky, refreshing enough. Overall, this is one solid beer and yet again an offering from the most improved brewery in America (not that they were bad to begin with). Recommended. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA

Huge citrus aroma with sweet malt in the background. Caramel and cirtus hop flavors with a long lightly bitter finish. Light to medium bodied with a full long flavor. Very tasty.
