| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 13, 2008 I’ve had a couple of red rye beers now, and I suppose this sort of grain must seem to lend itself well to tons of hops. The beer looks great with a huge head (almost too big) it is a pretty shade of red and is pretty cloudy. The aroma is largely floral, and the flavor is very bitter and hoppy. Hops dominate the flavor but the rye seems to provide a good dryness that makes this beer a pleasure to drink. walleye (879), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 30, 2004 from the bottle, poured crimson red with a nice fluffy light tan head aroma a nose full of hops, malts, grapefruits, hints of caramel, molasses. the hops were not as strong as the aroma which was good, nice mouth feel has a pleasant bitterness to it, grapefruit. do not know what malted rye taste like but there is a flavor in here that I like so maybe that is it. good beer. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 31, 2008 Wow. A lot stronger on the hops than I was expecting. Pours a brown color with a small white head. Smell is hoppy and full of citrus. Taste is also very hoppy. Not a lot of red character to this at all and the rye really only comes at the back end with a little dryness. It is a good beer, but I kinda feel like it is false advertising. This is more like an IPA. Trev (872), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 12, 2009 Pours amber with a medium off white foamy head.
Aroma is nice toasted malt, some bready tones some caramel tones, resinous hop and lighter grapefruit hints.
Flavour is the piney hop in the front, some sweet and sour maltiness with a medium bitter finish.
Some sourish rye malt in the finish as well. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 11, 2006 Very nice nose, no shortage of hops spice and brown sugar; bring it on! As the brew
warms, a strong floral character permeates the aroma. The brew pours a cloudy orange
copper. The stiff, tall off white head is rocky with excellent retention, and leaves wispy
webs of lace. The flavor is exceptional. If I was tasting blind, I’d think I was sampling a
very well made IPA. Bitter throughout with stout depth and a strong coffee finish. The
medium to full body is soft and very dry. I’m surprised that this brew doesn’t have a
stronger average, this one caught me off guard. If this brew is indicative of the prowess of this brewer, Founders may be one of the best
kept secrets in the industry. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 27, 2006 Redish brown color. Can smell hops but they smell diffent. Tastes like it smells but better. I love this kind of rye, hops and bitterness at the end. Great beer. afireinside96 (836), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 5, 2008 12oz bottle served in a Duvel tulip. Hazy reddish brown body topped by a diminishing small off-white had. Big nose full of Amarillo hops, lemon, grapefruit. Flavor is lightly spicy balanced by a big citrusy hop flavor. Medium body, lasting bitter finish. I really love Amarillo hops so this was quite a treat.
