Great looking beer! Aroma is a bouquet of hops with orange, pine, floral notes, caramel and hints of rye. Flavor of citrus, caramel, grapefruit, piney, toffee, nice rye notes, dry and a very nice balance of hop bitterness and malty sweetness. One excellent beer! Aroma is rich , oily hops, light sweetness, faint rye, and pine needles. Taste is big hops, pine, light citrus, rye, maple-like sweetness, and creamy malts. Excellent! Body is oily with moderate carbonation and a medium feel. Obvious lingering bitterness. Finishes with more big hoppiness, pine, light citrus, creamy malts and brown sugar. Totally different than I expected and a really nice surprise! PorterPounder (3138), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

- but if they all taste like this keep making ’em! Pours a dark copper color with an everlasting off-white colored head which lasts all day and thick creamy lacing. Fresh floral aroma with sweet nectarine hints. Delectable flavor which has the usual grapefruity hoppiness, but subdued, mellowed and rounded to a syrupy sweet concoction.
Hints of caramel and mint make their appearance to make a weel rounded IPA. Creamy smooth mouthfeel, leaves you thirsting for more. Excellent American Strong Ale (or Rye!). GeneralGao (3057), Iowa City, Iowa, USA

Head was bubbly and off white/orange with good retention and lacing. Malty aroma with molasses and toasted bread. There was also a bit of dried fruit. Dry on the tongue with a bit too much carbonation. Well balanced flowery hop and toasted bread malt flavors. Good, not great. WeeHeavySD (2990), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA

I’ve been looking forward to this since I had Black Rye a while back. Pours a deep amaber with a nice thick tan head. The nose is quite malty with a strong vibe. The taste is malty and hoppy with a spicy edge, that could be the rye. This is tasty, another gem from Founders, I love their beer. presario (2983), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
