Commercial Description:
Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

Redish brown color. Can smell hops but they smell diffent. Tastes like it smells but better. I love this kind of rye, hops and bitterness at the end. Great beer.

12 oz bottle. Amber color with creamy tan head with a slight orange hue. Full aroma of sweet sugary caramel malts and pine hops. The flavor is lots of pine hops with some grassiness. The sweet malts are experienced around the distant edges of the hops. Just about the end there is a rye note that surfaces. Nice lacing too.

Bottle: Deep, slightly hazy amber topped a consistent tan head. Very aromatic. Has a rich hop as well as malt presence. Sweet caramel, bready rye malts, accompanied by an American hop fruitiness of brown sugar nectarines. Tight carbonation in the velvety feel. The rye malt has a great presence, giving it a bread crust richness (not sweet or doughy bread) Mild chocolaty and caramel hints as well, meshing harmoniously with a grapefruity hop flavor, which gives it a perfect amount of dryness. Slightly piney bitter finish. Delicious, and extremely drinkable.

Pours an orange redish color with a big creamy heady. Nose is incredible with hops oils and dare I say marijuana? Taste is bitter and a bit caramel. Good beer fizzy mouth feel and goes down easy. Good job founders.

12oz bottle. Pours a little hazy and deep amber/red with scarlet/ruby highlights and a medium-sized light tan head that leaves spiderweb-swaths of lace all over the glass. The aroma is beautiful, magical hops. Holy crap that smells good. There are malty notes, too - caramel and honey - but it is mostly about citrus, herbal, floral hops. The flavor follows the aroma - a very rich, floral hop flavor with some grainy, spicy rye and a lot of juicy fruit and caramel/toffee/bready/honey malts. At mid-palate, the bitterness is clean with a little bit of spicy/herbal character, and some citrus. The rye flavors are strong in the finish - which is somewhat dry and bittersweet with subtle chocolate notes accompanying caramel malts and citrus and floral hop bitterness. The mouthfeel has a medium-level of carbonation (somewhere between crisp and soft) with a surprisingly luxurious, creamy, smooth, full texture. Overall, a fantastic American Amber!

This is one sexy looking beer. Deep ruby pour, fragrant citrus and floral aroma with a finish that is like a bitter lick of a ruby red grapefruit rind.

pours a cloudy dark red with a nice two finger fluffy tan head. aroma is malt, hops, and subtle rye with grapefruit, orange peel, and pine. has a medium body with descent lacing and good carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma but stronger and with a little caramel to the malt. has a descent dry hop aftertaste and the hops and rye sit on the tongue for a while. very nice. it is also a touch sticky on the lips. it also has a little pepper in the aftertaste.

THOUGHTS: Way better than I was expecting. I’ve had a few rye beers and this is one of the best. It was right up there with Bear Republic’s Hop-Rod Rye. Like that beer the rye is not overpowering, but adds just the right piece to complete a great beer. The rye just seems to make it smoother. Hid alcohol fairly well. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium to dark orangey red with a small to average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was light to moderate malt, moderate to heavy citrus (sort of like ruby red grapefruit and orange rind) hops and some rye. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet, lightly acidic and moderately bitter; while the finish was moderately sweet, heavily bitter and a little sour with and average to long duration. There was some rye throughout and started with malt sweetness melding into citrus hops with just a touch of sour rye in the finial with a little metallic hops. Nice balance and great transition. The medium body was dry with tingly carbonation and a light metallic finish, but overall it sort of just goes down easy.
