Aroma is also enjoyable with a wonderful floral hop aroma, a bit of malt and rye. Flavor is very hoppy bright as to fresh citrus. Very enjoyable strong ale. ABV is not noticable. mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 15, 2006 Pours from the bottle a cloudy, opaque reddish orange hue under a huge, thick and frothy beige head. Superb head retention throughout with a trail of thick lacing. Pleasant, moderate aromas of pine needles, caramel , lemon rind, spices and rye toast meld together nicely. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with a spritzy carbonation. Initial flavor seems dominated by the malts revealing a subdued caramel, toffee sweetness. This quickly transcends into a hefty hop and rye flavor profile showing off assertive notes of grapefruit, pine, rye seeds and spicy black pepper. Finish is a mouth-puckering combination of a chalky-like mineral dryness and hoppy bitterness which hangs on nicely. In the end a great balance of the malts, hops and rye to create a pleasurable, unique style. Volgon (2490), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

From a bottle, this pours a deep ruby amber with a big, tan head. Strong rye in the aroma with a bit of spicy hops in the background. Initial taste is sweet but then there’s a sudden WHACK of dry, bitter rye. Nice hop quality rounds out the experience. Very smooth, medium weight beer with nice carbonation. I’m really loving rye brews and this one is an excellent example. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 2, 2006 Pours a clear dark reddish brown - slightly hazy with a very pillowy looking off white head. Pleasing smooth hop aroma. Aroma is a hops with some malt aspects that give it a smooth feel. Taste begins full bodied with the malt up-front - nice dark roastiness with carmel aspects. Shortly after that comes the heavy hop presence and dryness from the rye. The finish is hop and rye bitterness. The lacing on the glass is very heavy. This is a fantastic beer from a brewery that never lets me down. Prostman (1077), Pennsylvania, USA
