Great spicy hop flavor with enough malt to even things out. Nice Beer. Great Drinkability. Jokes (1453), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 13, 2006 Hazy auburn red with a moderate, light tan head that slowly dissolves into a thin layer. The aroma is hoppy, slightly sweet and intriguingly spicy. Pine, grapefruit, caramel, some whole grains, dry bread and some serious, succulent malty sweetness. The body is smooth and creamy with mild carbonation. The flavor has more elements of nice balance: sweet malt and bitter hops are both equally present. The hops seem to last a little longer as it is carried on the mild but warming alcohol on the finish. This is dangerous at almost 7% because its so drinkable. Maybe my favorite Founder’s offering yet... JPDIPSO (4932), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA

Couple small rings of lace. Fresh hops aromas of grapefruit flesh and orange rinds. A true hops head aroma. But as it warms some malt goodness is detected in the nose. Hops juice from the start. with fresh pine and mild citrus. Lots of malt sweetness to back this up, but not real strong. Some caramel and pale malt flavors. Finishes with a touch of acidity from the hops that seems to cleanse the palate. Enough slickness that you can feel the rye. For some reason I am back on the hops wagon and this one is carrying me to the hops field of dream. Finish with a floor malt taste that went well with the mexican food tonight. The mix with the red peppers is awesome. this is only my fourth or fifth brew from the brewery, but I will be in search for more! Dogbrick (2901), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 15, 2005 Sampled at From The Vine beer tasting Jan 14th, 2005: Two beers in a row that exceeded expectations. This beer is a light amber color with a medium thin off-white head and minimal lacing. Rye is prevalent in the nose, along with some hops and caramel. Medium-bodied with a blast of citrus and floral hops flavor. Rye and grain is much more understated than in the aroma and it works well. The finish is lightly sweet with a touch of spice. Well-done. The category is nebulous but the brew is not. Well defined and consistent it is. Which is something Founder’s has difficulty achieving at times. It is unique and almost undefinable until tasted. Much like Founder’s Centennial IPA it is very difficult to describe in relative terms because the flavor is so unique. But unlike the Centennial IPA, Red’s doesn’t have the quality control problems. When the Centennial is on it’s one of the very best, but when it’s off it’s undrinkable (stale, sour tasting, or even worse, totally blown CO2-wise... hmm, very unusual in a "modern" brew). Red’s hasn’t suffered from any of these nonsensicalities. Red’s Rye is good swag. MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 23, 2004 This is one of those "Emmeril" beers - "BAM!" - the citrus hop aroma wakes you up; "BAM" - the orange red bubbly brew topped with a thick head and fantastic lacing really catches your eye; "BAM!!" the flavor - oh the flavor! - super tongue shriveling rye really coats the tongue - tastes like very sharp rye toast and cirtus grapefruit orange peel. "BAM!!!!" - the finish is like an everlasting gobstopper made of rye and hops. We may have this listed as "an ale" , but it could kick the ass of many IPA’s. More and more good brew from Founders - I’m never disappointed.
