Commercial Description:
Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

Bottle: Beautiful ruby color with a small, creamy tan head that slowly fades to a ring around the outside of the glass. Aroma is strong hops - citrus, grapefruit, floral grass, orange, light caramel. Taste is initially sweet grapefruit, flowery hops, then steeped malts, caramel, pine, and spices with a nice sweetness towards the middle. Finishes mildly spicy, dry, with notes of floral hops and bitter malt. Medium bodied, but nice creamy, full mouth feel. Nicely balanced throughout.

bottle to shaker from Crane Alley, Urbana-Champagne, IL / wow, really good! reminded me of a heavier, more fuller, Brian Boru Old Irish Red from Three Floyds. definitely a dry, bready, raw, rye bite, with a pretty orange citrusy hop punch. UPDATE 4/11/05: tulip / uprated aroma. delicious.

Deep red color. Intense grapefruit-hop aroma. Rich mouthfeel, again citrus elements. Slight bitter finish. Very enjoyable.

This was excellent. Am becoming very impressed with Founders. Had this on tap at The Blind Pig in Champaign, IL. Great beer place. Dark copper body under a frothy tan head. Nice lacing and animated bubbles. Aroma of fresh citrusy hops mingled with matly sweetness and a wisp of rye. Gentle carbonation and a strong body. The flavor was predominently hops and in the most pleasant of ways. Mixed in was the matly sweetness and the hints of rye, but the hops are what grab you and entice you into more and more. A refreshing, rewarding, thoroughly enjoyable beer that would go well with most foods, especially spicy food. Yes, this is definitely a keeper.

Bottle. Hazy red-amber with a thik tan head that fills the pint glass. Aroma primarily citrus, with some toffee, earth, and rye. Citric hop flavor at first with sweet malt joining in later. The rye is most evident towards the finish, and works incredibly well. Long, bitter finish. Delicious.

I think I’m definitely a fan of ryes. Much in the vein of Bear Republic’s HopRod, this beer has a ton of bite. Thick rye, grapefruit and some smoothing maltyness in the flavour. Spicy, Hoppy and Crisp. Like a glass of grapefruit juice with rye toast and a thin layer of jam.

Aroma of fruity, citric hops (Centennial, seemingly), strong grapefruit and lemon notes with lighter hints of spice and toasty malt. Hazy deep red color with a lasting, creamy head and impressive lacing. Massively hoppy flavor profile, juicy, resinous and fruity, the middle seeing some balancing dark malt sweetness and finishing dry with a blend of intense hop bitterness and citric flavor and spicy, faintly minty rye. Palate is lush and full, body is medium. Very much like a dark IPA with added rye and quite a treat for any hop lover.
