MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA Mar 25, 2009 Floral citrus hop aroma with some sweet tea like notes. Clear, slight haze, deep amber golden/copper. Grassy floral hop flavor dominates along with caramel maltyness. Medium almost full mouthfeel. Finish is moderately sweet with moderate residual bitterness. Excellent beer. FlssmrBrewAlum (1079), Lisle, Illinois, USA Mar 24, 2009 12 oz bottle courtesy of the Binnys Singles Rack (Orland Park, IL) or Three Cellars (Franklin, WI). I do no remember. Pours a deep dark prominent orangey copperwith touches of brown and a moderate whitish thick head that looks like it won’t go completely away. Good retention, good lacing. Aromas are prevalent with a big rye malt feel, dominant, with light spice, subtle fruit, but largely rye bread. Initial has a good body, with lighter (But not light) rye malts, bready and biscuity qualities, with a touch of fruity sweetness mixed in and lighter hoppy bitterness balancing on the backend. This brew is tasty and flavorful, but not overbearing, preferring to stay sessionable, quaffable, and lighter on the palate and a typical malty 7% brew. This is really quite good, a change of pace, and a has a good rye dominance, with bread, fruity sweetness, and a nice crisp hop bite on the finish with a touch of spice. Very nice. Cheers! Adam77 (407), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA Mar 24, 2009 Tap. Poured hazy amberish red with a fluffy off white head. Aroma of rye bread and spice. Some rye character with fruit and spice hints. Not a fan but solid. sallad (110), USA Mar 22, 2009 Very hazy amber, fizzy yet fluffy beige head. Sweet caramel aromas splashed with tangerine and a touch of pine. Faint chocolate flavors, tangy and earthy -- almost like a low-abv barleywine. Rather bitter, but a nice malt character, too. Slight alcohol warming, long tangy finish. dkachur (2316), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Mar 21, 2009 12 ounce bottle from Greenlife Grocery in Asheville, NC. Pours a slightly hazy vibrant red color with a thin head. Decent retention and lacing. Very dry aroma with strong citrus hops and assertive rye notes. The taste starts off fruity, with notes of citrus, particularly lime and grapefruit, peach and pear. Bitter finish of citrus hops and rye. Citrus is all over the place in this one. Medium-full bodied. TheBeerOrg (1563), Kentucky, USA Mar 19, 2009 Pours dark amber with a mostly receding off-white head. Aroma of fruity hops and toffee, toasted malt. Taste is citric hops, grapefruit, and some spicy dryness. Mouthfeel is full bodied with moderate resins. Pretty tasty stuff. sirpsycho (342), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 16, 2009 Draft at Mad Mex (Monroeville). Pours a slightly hazy red, small tan head. Aroma is hops and a touch of caramel hiding in the background. Flavor is a nice blend of hops, caramel and spices (I’m guessing that’s the rye ?) Just a hint of sweetness pairs up nicely with the medium bitter finish. willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Mar 16, 2009 20090315 12oz bottle, readily available. Dark red-bronze, lightly hazed, with small, fading white head, briefly lacing. Rich malty aroma, bready, cookie dough, caramel, and black tea, with light pine and earthy hop notes. Flavor adds a bit of rye, grassy, astringent, and more light earthiness. Medium bodied with heft appropriate for its strength, light peppery spice, and even finishing a touch sticky. Nice stuff, but perhaps a stretch for the eleven dollar price tag.
