BustedFlat (552), Edina, Minnesota, USA Jun 13, 2008 Poured cloudy amber with a tan head. Aroma of pine hops and citrus. You can defininitely taste the rye in this one along with some pine hops. There is a pronounced hop bitterness.

Paired with the second course was this gem. I’ve been meaning to pick up some for a long time now. After trying it I definitely will revisit it once the cellar gets thinned down a bit. Much like the IPA and Pale Ale it is one of those gateway beers that you could share with someone not really into craft products.
Aroma / Appearance - The brownish red body percolated with carbonation on a short lived head. Black cherry, slightly burnt wood and watered down caramel created a nice malty presentation.
Flavor / Palate - Brown sugar and molasses hit the throat first. Next came bittersweet chocolate. The final ingredient was an earthy finish. A little more complex than the other two it was a nice transition to Founder’s bigger beers. In some ways it reminds me of Stone XIth or other ’dark IPAs’. I’ll definitely have to pick up more at some point. dogfishho (172), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Jun 10, 2008 Pours a red copper color with a white head that throws lacing all over the glass. The aroma is fairly hoppy with the traditional grapefruit aromas highlighting the expression. The flavor was less hoppy than I expected. The malts were very complex as there was a very nice spicinesses from the rye combined with a biscuity carmel flavor as well. Very well balanced on the palate and refreshing. Nice beer with a cool grain bill. AdamSkillin (376), High Bridge, New Jersey, USA Jun 9, 2008 Draught at Circa, 6/8/08. Not a beer to be trifled with on a 94 degree day. Copious bittering hops almost overshadows the spiciness imparted from the rye. I love my triple imperial 120 IBU IPAs as much as the next guy, but I think I’d like this beer more if the play between the sweetness of the caramel malt and the spice of the rye were allowed to shine through a bit more. IPAaLLtHEwAY (136), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Jun 8, 2008 This bad boy pours an overly darkened crimson red, with really beautiful head. Smell like grapefruit. The flavor reminds me of grapefruit a lot. The hops are very citrus flavored and there is a slightly acidic feel to it. Really unique. badgerben (3586), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Jun 5, 2008 Thanks to LawStudent09 for sharing. Copper color with no head. Big pine hop aroma. Lots of spicy rye flavor and some more pine. A little caramel finish. screigh (253), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 2, 2008 Pours a nice looking amber color. Small white head but it does have some lasting power with some lacing. A strange grain smell...I assume this is rye. Mouthfeel is somewhat thin. Nice malt balance with the hops. Some bitter finishing. This is a real nice beer. Naka (524), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 1, 2008 Pours a deep amber red with a small off-white foamy head. The nose is fresh cut grapefruit with a little bit of pine. The flavor is strong hops with some tea and bitterness. A lot more floral in the taste than in the nose. There is a nice peachy sweetness underneath. The body is pretty rich. A really hoppy red, but delicious.
