bhensonb (4180), Woodland, California, USA Feb 13, 2008 Roasted "red" malt aroma backed with a deal of hop. Mahogany color with a vigorous white head. Medium body with creamy carbonation. The flavor is smooth roasted malt with resin and citrus hop. Rye flavor comes out with time, and the balance of malt and hop is pretty good. The finish is lightly sweet and strongly hopped. Very good drink. Jabswitch (206), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jan 30, 2008 What an extraordinary beer! Beautiful copperish red with floaters. Strong, hoppy aroma with a taste that matches. Unique and almost over powering taste!
It never gets old!! This would be my number 1 choice at any liquor store. So glad it is fairly easy to find in Northeast Wisconsin. If you haven’t had this, delay no longer. You won’t be sorry. toddkrem (78), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jan 26, 2008 Medium carbonation some lace. Nice spicy flavor with sweetness. Goes good with food. Has floral flavoring to it. One of my favorites at the bar. TyRip (40), Canton, Ohio, USA Jan 21, 2008 I wasn’t crazy about this at first. It reminded me of everything going wrong with a hoppy beer. It seemed like the spicy bitterness was the only thing there. Then I realized that it was just my first rye, and could pick up some of the malt and appreciate the rye separately from the hopping. It is a solid beer, and I would definitely have it again. WickerBrew (312), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 14, 2008 No hiding the rye flavor here, its very evident. Though not as refined as Cane & Ebel, robustness abounds. Founders stuff usually gives me a headache, but this didnt do that, which is nice. Very good along food, since it might be hard to just drink alot of these. beerbill (1917), Laurel, New York, USA Jan 12, 2008 12 oz. bottle courtesy of Secret Santa. Pours a slightly hazy copper with a moderate off-white head that lasted until the end and left partial lacing on the glass. Very nice juicy aroma of oranges and grapefruit. Interestingly, there is very little citrus in the flavor. Instead, the flavor is malt up front followed by pine and some spice. Then, some rye flavor sneaks in towards the finish. Moderate bitterness at the finish as well. Thank you Santa! ucusty (1865), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Jan 11, 2008 pours cpper with lush white head, and nice lacing. Pleasant citrus hops aroma. Creamy velvety mouth-feel with nice complexity. Spicy upfront with a clean finish.! jbean (110), Illinois, USA Jan 6, 2008 Bottle. Pours copper red with thin off-white head. Aroma is very hoppy and spicy, very full, strong and interesting. The flavor is wonderful (though not as good as Cane and Ebel), the rye adds a nice complexity. Pretty spicy and bitter, but maintains a good level of creaminess. Interesting and very drinkable.
