waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA Nov 3, 2007 bottle. mahogony/red pour iwth gigantic off white foamy head. aroma of big caramel malts, fresh hops and spice. sweet and malty. cinammon and sugar. heavy. balance is dominated by malts. xmarcnolanx (789), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Nov 2, 2007 Aroma is predominantly citrus hops with a dry malty overtone.
Taste is initially very citrus and pine/floral hops and I start to wonder if this is really a specialty grain beer or a Rye IPA. And in the finish as the rye really starts to shine through and the resiny hops linger I realize that I was wrong and this deserves to be a specialty grain beer. Very nice. Guerde (693), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Nov 1, 2007 (bottle thanks Joebrew) Pours dark amber with a tan head. I got an aroma of dijon mustard on this. Tastes like a baked rye chip, with a slightly bready finish that was somewhat tart. JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Oct 27, 2007 A good hop aroma, herbal and some pine. Balanced by sweet malt, and more hops in the flavor. This beer could probably fit in the American pale ale category. Copper color and well carbonated. polomagnifico (532), Saginaw, Michigan, USA Oct 26, 2007 Updated: Dec 26, 2008Aroma is citrus hops with hay and grass. Orange amber hue with a tan head that left good lace. Flowery hop flavor with a bitter finish. Watery flat palate. verymerrymonk (255), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 25, 2007 Pours a deep red with a bubbly off-white head. Hops in aroma. Slightly sweet, then a bitter, very dry finish. Nice. jvmiller (532), Bel Air, Maryland, USA Oct 21, 2007 Updated: Oct 22, 2007Nice and bitey, refreshing, crisp. Pretty drinkable and tasty. Solid. I would get again. travita (1851), Frisco, Texas, USA Oct 19, 2007 Deep copper color with a tan head and lingering brussels lace. Strong but nice floral smell. Flavor of rye and hops.
