drewbeerme (2224), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 16, 2007 on tap. really hopped up ale with interesting complexity from the rye. ireally tasty stuff. mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Sep 13, 2007 Pours a slightly cloudy, almost glowing red color with a thick, frothy, fairly well-retined tan head. Some nice lacing is left on the sides of the glass. Unique aroma of dry hops, mild spices, and some caramel malts that balance it out a bit. The taste is definitely quite hoppy with a profound bitterness, but it suited this beer. Not unpleasant at all. The malted rye is definitely noticeable too, as it has some grainy qualitites about it. The finish was long and flavorful as the hop bitterness lingered in the aftertaste. Quality brew. Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Sep 13, 2007 If blindfolded I would think this was an IPA. Flavor is full of hop and grapefruit. The beer is reddish brown in color with almost no foam. Aroma is also hop. There are some malt undertones to both the aroma and flavor but hops clearly dominate. Rye provides a subtle dryness and bitterness. jason (1620), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 12, 2007 Bottle. Pours a deep red body with nice head. Aroma is hoppy, sweet malt and a faint rye scent that really came out as it warmed. Flavor is a nice hoppy taste, nice mlaty backbone and a really nice rye presence. I found myself drinking this pretty quickly and was wondering it’s sessionability (possible new word?) but at the higher alcohol rate I need to slow this one down and enjoy it... marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Sep 11, 2007 This red ale poured with a modest beige head and a strong malt aroma. The flavor is very hoppy from start to finish, with an underlying malt taste. The resulting balance makes for a very pleasant drink. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Sep 10, 2007 Bottle rating. Thanks Islay for picking this up while in Wisc. Nice grapefruit citrus nose going on here. Flavor is kind of bready with a slight bitter finish. Also some rye flavor in the finish. The flavors all seem to meld together well here. Very enjoyable and simple almost session like qualities, although now I see it’s just under 7%. Well, the alcohol is well hidden so it tastes like a session anyway. JJClark (545), Roscoe, Illinois, USA Sep 9, 2007 Bottle. Pours a hazy reddish amber color with a medium size off white head. Aroma of citrus with a hoppy floral overtone. Flavor of caramel, hops and spices. Slightly sweet fruity character. Has a dry woody taste in the finish. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Sep 1, 2007 Nice rye beer. Even and well balanced. Flavor is lightly sweet with a bitter hoppy balance. Very smooth and rich on the palate. Good carbonation and head. Light reddish color. Very flavorful and rich but not overdone and easy to drink.
