Aroma of vanilla, toasted malt and chocolate. flavors of vanilla, chocolate and roasted malt. Medium body, roasty/malty with a roasty/creamy finish. Nice! badnewsbeers (982), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Jan 19, 2008 on tap at founders...pours black with medium brown head..aroma of vanilla bean (not of cheap extract) and heavy chocolate..flavor is pretty much the same with added coffee notes...beautiful, thick and creamy mouthfeel...a very nice, robust spin on their porter Glouglouburp (2006), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 4, 2008 Updated: Jul 11, 2008In short: A tasty dry cacao-vanilla porter/stout. Excellent beer.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Black body with a little beige ring of foam
In long: Vanilla and cacao harmoniously join forces and create a strong resemblance to the much respected Dieu Du Ciel Aphrodisiaque. Full body, lots of carbonation, floury cacao, medium roastiness level, overall dry feeling, sharp bitterness, citric notes in the finish with a pleasant tartness. This is not a smooth and round porter, this is a tasty and sharp beer. Excellent brew. As good as it is I will keep drinking the Aphrodisiaque when I’m looking for this flavour profile (1,100 miles closer to me and with the price of gas these days…). Pours a very nice dark brown in color with a nice foamy head. Smell is vanilla hazelnut. Taste is much the same, with some slight chocolate and dark fruit underneath. Good beer. An improvement on a already good porter. Silphium (2028), Lansing, Michigan, USA Nov 18, 2007 On tap at the grand opening of the new brewpub. I was really impressed by this porter. The vanilla adds depth to, rather than overwhelms, the rich malt profile. Strong chocolate, roasted malt, licorice, and coffee carried the hefty, velvety smooth body. I hope other brewers take note and deliver similar gems rather than the smattering of supercharged vanillin waters on the supermarket shelves.
