Hudspart (283), Hudsonville, Michigan, USA Apr 18, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with small brown head. Aroma of coffee and vanilla (of course). Tastes much better that I expected as I really do not like vanilla. Almost like coffee and ice cream.
Glouglouburp (1872), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 4, 2008 Updated: Jul 11, 2008In short: A tasty dry cacao-vanilla porter/stout. Excellent beer.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Black body with a little beige ring of foam
In long: Vanilla and cacao harmoniously join forces and create a strong resemblance to the much respected Dieu Du Ciel Aphrodisiaque. Full body, lots of carbonation, floury cacao, medium roastiness level, overall dry feeling, sharp bitterness, citric notes in the finish with a pleasant tartness. This is not a smooth and round porter, this is a tasty and sharp beer. Excellent brew. As good as it is I will keep drinking the Aphrodisiaque when I’m looking for this flavour profile (1,100 miles closer to me and with the price of gas these days…). lb4lb (1267), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 30, 2008 Sampled from a growler at DLD. Thanks!
Pours a nice dark brownish black with a very small head. Smell is vanilla and roasty malt. Taste is mostly the same with a roasty malt flavor, low bitterness and with some chocolatey flavors and a lot of vanilla. Body is a bit thin, or at least seemed so, in my sample and the carbonation was light to medium.
Skyview (2641), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA May 26, 2008 Sampled during Dark Lord Days ’08 and shared by dm9831. From growler pours an opaque dark brown brew with a thin light tan head that has some good retention. Aroma of toasted dark malts, some vanilla, dark pitted fruits and a touch of red licorice. Taste is medium to full bodied, lightly carbonated with flavors of toasted dark malts, chocolate, a touch of vanilla and some hint of coffee. Finish is a little gritty at first and then a toasted dark malt aftertaste with vanilla cream. An interesting little bugger, and would like to try this one again. sneagrams3 (1342), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 10, 2008 Tasted 4/27/08. 4oz sampler from the brewpub. Dark brown and opaque hue. Beige head. Touch vanilla in the nose. So smooth. So rich. Medium to full bodied with a great roast. Nice sweet vanilla syrup flavor. Reminds me of A&W Cream Soda. Good effervescence. Tangy palate. Good spiced brew! sliffy (1930), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 5, 2008 DLD ’08: Growler thanks to Chris for sharing: Pours black with a tan head. Aroma, vanilla, chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor, vanilla, chocolate, roasted notes, sweet coffee notes on the finish.
