Commercial Description:
What is it? Barleywines are super strength beers that have their roots in old England. They are comparable to Ports or Sherry in their sweet flavor and high potency. Ours is more of an American style in that it has been infused with massive amounts of hops. How was it made so strong? Lots of malt. In other words, lots of food for yeast. More yeast food equals more alcohol. When there is so much alcohol though, the beer needs time fore those flavors to mellow out. So we aged Hopsquatch for one year in stainless. This long aging period also allowed some of the harsh bitter flavor from the hops to buffer out and blend with all of the other flavors. This creates a fine, full flavored, very complex ale. What’s with the name? Traditionally barleywines have colorful names like, Monster, Old Nick, Sudden Death, Old Knucklehead, Old Fart, etc. Ours is no different. When we brewed it we had these metaphorical visions of a twelve foot tall hop-covered beast lurking in the cellar for a year. No body believed us, so like the legend of Bigfoot, Hopsquatch was born… That, and it sounds funny. What’s with the "Pimp-Chalice" glassware? See the above description (Hat tip to all the brewers on this one).

Had this last night on draft at Pizza Port’s strong ale fest. Being a hophead, this was one of my favorites for the night. Very floral and pretty nose with clean hop notes. Flavor profile wsa almost all hops, but a nice balance of the high piney notes with the earthy flavors from medium boils. Slightly cloudy amber pour with no head. I want more!

Had a batch that brewer said was 14 months in preperation... and that it is more drinkable than when it was younger. Brewer said 12% not 11%... had at a special beer event in Papago. Nice hop flavor, it is very strong but actually u can savor it. Nice in a 4oz serving.

Clear apricot, diminishing off-white head. Heavily aromatic hops dominate the nose and overwhelm the palate for that matter, hiding any trace of maltiness behind a crisp powdery veil. They carry on lemony and limey flavours that feel very juicy in mouth. Medium bodied, extremely dry, but fortunately not tart.

One of the first beers from the new batch of this in Tempe. Big tan head that looks like they attached a beeker to the top of a small fishbowl. Body was darker amber color. Great citrus hop aromas along with some sweet malts. Reminded me of a scotch aroma than beer. Flavor was well balaned between the slightly sweet malts and alcohol content. Smooth easy drinking beer with a slight butterscotch taste on the palate.

This beer was served in a huge thistle glass. There is a three finger thick, frothy, tan colored head on this beer initially. The beer is a lightly hazy amber color. The aroma is rich, with concentrated malt notes. I smell caramel, butterscotch, pine, orange, and a strong herbal note. The concentrated malt notes really dominate the aromas of this beer. The taste is quite rich and concentrated, just as the aroma promised. This beer has a dominant malty sweetness that has characteristic notes of concentrated caramel and sherry oxidation notes. This beer is quite well hopped as well. I get notes of concentrated citrus, grapefruit, orange, pine, sharp herbal notes and a solid, almost grassy, bitter finish. This is really quite a concentrated brew all around. It is a contemplative tipple that would be perfect on a cold winter night, a companion to a Le Carre Novel. This is fairly thick, even mores so than the prototypical American Barley wine Bigfoot. There is quite a bit more alcohol too (11%). If you enjoy Barley Wines then ignore my relatively low score on this one, because this should tickle you pink.

Served in a nice Pimp-Chalice. Nice dark amber with a huge thick head and awesome lacing. Aroma of sweet malts and caramel with very light alcohol in the background. Flavor is sweet malt with the alcohol very well hidden. This barleywine only got better as it warmed and was so easy drinking that I had to order another! Good beer!

tap at brewery-pours a deep amber hue with a nice sudsy off-white head and good lacing. Bigtime hoppy aroma with good caramel malts shining through as well. smells beautiful! Flavors are piney and caramel malts with a good sweetness that wasn’t detracting in any way. nice lush body with approproate carbonation. the malts really shine in this one after a while as it warmed. good hop flavors along for the ride. nice work 4 peaks!
