Commercial Description:
This is an ale made in the tradition of the great strong ales of Scotland. Amber colored, malty sweet with underlying note of smokiness.

Draft. Surprisingly fresh and full bodied, appropriately chewy and resinous, with notes of toffee, tobacco and whiskey. I like.

I was a fan of this. Scottish Ales aren’t all that common, so I don’t have a good read on what typical should be. that said, I enjoyed it, but thought it was pretty basic. Not as much flavor as I’d like, but it was good.

12oz bottle thanks to Odeed. Pours a clear amber with a huge, fluffy off-white head. Nose is of wet, dirty socks. Funky peat and pepper. taste is malt and peat with some spice and pepper. Mouthfeel is medium-thin with lots of carbonation. Nothing special about this beer.

12 oz bottle courtesy of cbkshubert. Pours a dark rusty orange with thin ecrue head. The aroma is quite toasty and malty, with a few ripe fruit, melon, and spice notes. The flavor is toast, autumn leaves, a little bit of caramel, and distant notes of peat, vanilla, and oak. Some mild leafy hops grace the finish. Not bad.

On tap at Uno Chicago Grill in downtown Phoenix. Pours a clear, dark, iced-tea, golden brown with a slight off-white head. The nose of sweet caramel and lightly peaty malt. Light-bodied and slick with a mildly prickly finish. The flavor follows the nose with a subtle peaty and caramel malt blend. A solid Scottish ale.

Bottle as a bonus in trade from rustychiles. Thanks! Pours a copper color with a short lived whitish head. Smell is rich, leathery, and lightly smoky. Taste is watery, but pleasant with light smokiness and dry malt. Bit watery mouthfeel and lightly crisp carbonation. Flavor is nice but light. Nice beer.

Bottle courtesy of rustychiles. Pours copper with a creamy white head. Smells of perfume, spice, raisins, sweet malt. Tastes of pepper, mild spice, some nice hints of sweet malt. Rich palate. Enjoyable.

Appearance: Pours a clear, light brown body with a thin, bubbly head. Smell: Meager caramel-minded maltiness with a small waft of smoke and fruit note. Taste: Mild dark caramel malt character with a pinch of earthy brown sugar. Very slight smokiness. Hint of fruit. Light, inexpressive hops. Overall, a bit lacking flavorwise. Mouthfeel: It’s downright light-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Thanks, but no thanks. This is unacceptably bland! The things that pass for an "award-winning flagship ale" these days. Yeesh.
