Commercial Description:
Our Oatmeal Stout is definitely a local favorite but it gets its origins from one of London's oldest breweries. The Oatmeal Stout differs from the popular Irish stout in its more subtle roastiness and subdued dryness. The addition of flaked oats rounds out these sometimes harsh characteristics producing a velvet smooth ale. This black stout has a flavor profile unique to all of North America. Subtlety is not a strong point as it is a stout after all, rich and eminently drinkable.

On tap at brewpub. Pure black with a tannish head. Roasted aroma with some sweet chocolate flavor. Not as creamy as I expected or prefer in my oatmeal stouts.

Draught at the brewpub. Opaque black with thin tan head. Sweet milk chocolate aroma with coffee and anise undertones. Smooth and slightly sweet. Flavor is dominated by coffee and chocolate. Slightly bitter roasty finish.

This must be on nitrogen dispension because the creamy brown head on this beer really lingers and won’t go away. The beer is a pitch black color. The aroma has notes of chocolate with a bit of butter (perhaps a hint of diacetyl). I also get notes of lightly roasted coffee, though with time the buttery diacetyl notes becomes more evident, but not so much that it becomes distracting. The taste is incredibly smooth and creamy with a solid chocolate character to it. The two characteristics are reminiscent of a chocolate malt shake. The finish has notes of chocolate malt and a bit of alcohol to it. This is not a bad beer, the diacetyl is faintly noticeable in the taste, but adds to the dimensions of this beer. This is quite quaffable, and could probably get me in trouble if I drank too many.

tap at brewpub on nitro (i hate nitro!!!)-pours black with a foamy nitro tan head. aroma of chocolate, roast, char and a little anise. flavors exibit the chocolate and the char character very well. body is actually pretty good for a nitro pour. The dryness from the char note exibits more a dry stout than an oatmeal. The body is medium and this stout is fairly easy to drink. Think Guiness with more to it and thats what you get here.

Black in color. Have had a few not many stouts but this one was like drinking cold coffee. Roated coffee flavor and good lacing. Kind of watered down thought it woud be more rich in flavor.

I was looking foward to this at Four Peaks but ended up being a little disapointed. This stout was black with a great head and lacing and a aroma of roasted coffee and chocolate. Flavor was roasty, caramel and coffee but was very watery, more like a porter than a good thick stout. Not bad though, very drinkable.

Roasted malt/coffee/chocolate nose w. hints of cherry. Very chocolatey at first then bitter coffee, grape skin, creamy chocolate finish w. just a hint of hops.

Once again, don’t really dig the stouts, but had to try it. Pretty good. All of your average stout characteristics. Not really wanting to run back to the brewpub and grab another, but I might grab another if I were there.
