Commercial Description:
Our Oatmeal Stout is definitely a local favorite but it gets its origins from one of London's oldest breweries. The Oatmeal Stout differs from the popular Irish stout in its more subtle roastiness and subdued dryness. The addition of flaked oats rounds out these sometimes harsh characteristics producing a velvet smooth ale. This black stout has a flavor profile unique to all of North America. Subtlety is not a strong point as it is a stout after all, rich and eminently drinkable.

Very mild and uneventful with the normal players getting involved: chocolate, roasted malt, bitter coffee, etc., etc., etc.. Tasty but not one I’d go out of my way for.

On tap in Tempe. Deep black pour with a small creamy tan head that lasts and laces. Nice roasty malt and coffee aroma. Flavor is not highly complex, but very nice and slightly sweet. Smooth, but a bit thin on the palate. Not great, but worth a try.

Pours midnight black with a velvety single-finger head. Aroma is of mostly roast and sweet malt with a very nice underlying oatmeal sweetness. Taste encompasses the full spectrum of coffee, chocolate, oatmeal, and roast all in velvet goodness. Far better than any of the dozen other oatmeal stouts that I have had.

Tap at the brewpub in Tempe. Black with a creamy tan head. Dark toasted malt aroma. Medium body with very mild carbonation. Flavor is light burnt/toasted malt. Mildly bitter finish. Ok.

draft at the brewpub. Wow this was a poor excuse for beer. Really no good. Flavorless.

The first stout I can ever recall not finishing...and I only had a 1 oz sample! Pours a dark mahogony from the tap at Four Peaks with a thin creamy head. Tastes like someone’s first attempt at making coffee -- watery and unbalanced. A clear disappointment.
