A classic porter, nothing imperial about this one, but they should nat all be about that. Full body, sweetness, liquorice, coffee. M0RHI (1067), Luxembourg, Luxembourg

Mouth is inoffensive, with some toasted marshmallows, icing sugar and burning wood. Cocoa and roasted malts dominate. MesandSim (5851), London, Greater London, England

Appearance is a classic almost opaque with a tinge of red. It would be a 4 with some head and/or lacing. Similar flavour to the aroma... strong roasty hit at hte beginning with lasting coffee flavour and a dark chocolate finish. Tangy, almost grapey aftertaste. pivnizub (5028), Bochum, Porúří, Germany

Fine stuff..... duff (5475), Surrey, Greater London, England

Lots of sweet caramel notes first off, followed by some slightly ashy/lightly smokey flavours towards the finish. Some light bitterness and also a light acidity comes through in the finish. Some "milky" characters are noticed in the middle part of the beer. Not too bad though. chriso (4796), London, Greater London, England

Some chocolate and coffee in the aroma. Joined by smoky malt and some phenolic, mildly medicinal notes in the flavour. Slightly woody mouthfeel, with an ashy edge that detracts a little from the overall enjoyment. Otherwise an interesting and enjoyable beer.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 26, 2007 Gravity, Banbury Beer Festival. Brown-highlighted black, frosty light tan head. Profoundly rich caramel aroma; all the loviness of a doppelbock, with an underlying layer of chocolate as a bonus. Mmmm. Flavor is lightly sour coffee roast, much dryer and thiner than the decadent aroma would indicate. Based on Glen’s ratings, I wonder if the cask had fallen a bit off of prime since the day before. Never-the-less, a noteworthy beer by aroma alone.
