Commercial Description:
Fox River 1853 is a dark American lager brewed to commemorate the sesquicentennial of the founding of Oshkosh. It is inspired by modern beers like Schlitz Dark, although with more character, and initial research would lead one to assume that pale lagers were maybe just starting in this area by 1853, but certainly dark lagers were and had been commonplace.

Thanks to Skyview for sharing! Dark copper color with a thin head. Very bready aroma with a strong hint of chocolate. Dry and chalky taste. Nutty and some chocolate. Actually tastes much like a nut brown. Has a little bit of corn towards the finish. Nice overall.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at the Fratellos Waterfront Brewery & Restaurant in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Pours a clear brownish amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and a thin white ring. Aroma roasted caramel malt, a touch of corn adjunct, some citrusy hops, and a touch of pumpernickel. Taste is lighter than its aroma, medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of light toasted caramel malt, citrus zest and some roasted nut character. Finish has a mild bitterness that lingers around, a light malt aftertaste with even a hint of white pepper. I was told this was first brewed in 2003. Nice to have the brewmaster make one more batch of this commemorative beer.
