IlanMan (575), Winona, Minnesota, USA May 16, 2008 Pours a dark golden with an aroma of caramel and slight hop bitterness. Flavor is medium malty caramel with ever so slight pale hops. Decent brew. Nothing special for a Scottish ale. Probably won’t buy again.
MIBRomeo (1889), Wisconsin, USA Aug 10, 2008 Light brown pour nice full off white head w/ good lacing. Light caramel aroma a tch of smoke hints of syrups. Avg pal. Copper with thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel, sweet malts, wheat and mild roasted malts. Taste of sweet malts, caramel, roasted malts with a touch of toffee and mild hops. Smooth and decent, I’d have this one again. phishpond417 (1463), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jun 1, 2008 It was a very light colour for a scottish ale, clear amber colour with a small head. Very little caramel taste. Mouthfeel was incredilby light, very weak for its style overall. Skyview (2933), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Dec 27, 2007 On draught at both brewpub/brewery locations (Appleton and Oshkosh).
Rating base on Oshkosh version - pours a clear dark coppery amber brew with a thick/creamy off-white head that has excellent retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, a touch of peat, flowery hops and a touch of earthy herbs. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with a slight metallic texture of caramel malt and peat. Finish has a mild bitterness with a powdery caramel malt aftertaste. The Appleton version pours a dark coppery amber brew with a thick and creamy off-white head that has good retention and lacing. Aroma of butterscotch, caramel malt, some flowery hops and a touch of honey. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with more of a butterscotch flavor than sweet caramel malt. Finish has a semi-sweet butterscotch flavor. The two locations versions are quite different from each other.
