Bottled. Clear, sparkling, reddish-brown beer with an off-white head. So far, so good, but the rest isn’t. Malt, grain and hay in the aroma, and the flavor the same, except there is some hops too. Thin body, and a real disappointment. (060616)

Bottle. Dark copper pour, almost dark brown, active tan head. Smells of caramel and sugar, dark roastiness is subdued. Bitter and crisp beginning levels off and finished creamy and smooth. Dark caramel. Dry finish with very mild hoppiness. Could use a bit more flavor, what it has is good but too shy. Thanks to MoritzF!

Bottle 50cl. Very deep brown with lasting white head. Toffee lager aroma with roasted malt. Some sourness. Good alt. Lager with dark malts. Mind you still only a 3/5

I don’t if it is fair to compare imported alts to fresher domestic alts or draft versions in Germany. No, I know it isn’t fair. But, I have no choice but to rip this one as a WEAK German Altbier. Poured a dark red-brown color with an initial head built solely off of some carbonation (ie. it was gone after the bubbles popped quickly). The lacing was average. The aroma was really malty and caramel-like. The flavor was way too much caramel, even some bubble gum. The hopping was really weak for an altiber and I was thoroughly unimpressed at this find (alts don’t fall off trees around here). I suggest you not get this unless you’re in the Dusseldorf area - I won’t unless I’m there.

A cola brown altbier. Lots of carbonation from the bottle. Had a menthol flavor upfront and I’m not sure that I ever got over that. Did seem to get a little bit better, though, as I got towards the bottom.

Bottle: Clear amber, edging on a darker copper. Short white head. Caramel notes in the nose, along with some subdued fruit. Similar flavour, very clean though. Touch of roast. Quite tasty and refreshing.

[bottle from magic_dave6] Aroma is caramel malt, slight roasted quality, faint citric note. smooth body, very light sweetness upfront, followed by a touch of bitterness.
