wickedpete (514), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Jul 1, 2008 Thanks to Greg for this one. Brown body with a thin white head. Aroma is flowery sweet, hops and caramel. Flavor has some brown sugar, maple candy and a dry hop bitterness. kmweaver (1800), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Jun 28, 2008 Growler, courtesy of nuplastikk. Thanks, Greg! Pours a slightly hazy, tarnished orange color; thin off-white head with patchy lacing. Good amounts of tea, light candy sugar, and some mild hoppiness in the aroma; basic and slightly chewy. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: nice floral and orange candy notes upfront; mild earthy and citrus bitterness; a touch messy, but a solid, chewy malt core overall. Pretty tasty. Lengthy finish: bitter oranges, mineral hops, and some chewy tea-like malts. KnN (205), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Jun 20, 2008 Updated: Jun 26, 2008On tap 6/20/08. Frnaklins is one of the most frustrating brewpubs. They have all the right ingredients for a great local place, but their beer is always way to overhopped in the wrong ways. I love a good imperial IPA or American strong, but it’s all about the balance. There are just way to many bittering hops in here and not remotely enough of a strong malt to deal with them. The aroma reminded me of my grandmother’s basement and the flavor was like taking 10 aspirin and chewing them up and then chasing them with humidifier water. Please please please Franklin, lay off the bittering hops just a little. juiceisloose (278), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 28, 2008 Courtesy hopscotch. This one poured a murky brown color with a thin off white head that left some nice lacing. The aroma was of floral hops and some malts. The flavor was much the same with the floral hops upfront with some citrus fruit and some malts in the background. This one was easy drinking with a pretty good flavor with a nice clean finish. BBB63 (3676), La Porte, Indiana, USA Dec 12, 2007 (Dec 2007) Tap at brewery with Aaron and family: I guess each batch is different but nobody knows what is in it so the admins keep this as one entry: Reddish and amber hue with a spotty lace. The aroma has notes of caramel and toasted malt, piney and leafy hops, clove and pepper, and a bit of grapefruit ester. The taste is bitter and acidic with a bready background. The finish is dusty, leafy, and a bit peppery. The mouth feel is chewy and astringent. A very solid Imperial Red Ale at this moment. I could drink a few pint of this if in the area for a longer period of time.
