argo0 (6231), Washington DC, USA Mar 10, 2004 Body is fizzy and cloudy copper. Aroma is sweet, caramel, fruity, a bit underpowered. Taste is sweet, caramel, fruity (cherry/orange), decent grapefruit hops, finishing with a nice alcohol warming/burn. Sticky full body. CaptainCougar (4664), Rockville, Maryland, USA Dec 16, 2007 On tap at the brewpub on 12/6/07: Transparent dark copper amber pour has a nicely-lacing frothy light tan head. Aroma of lightly sweet caramel malt with some fresh grapefruity and orange hoppy notes. Body starts pretty viscous with sweet caramely character and some astringent bitterness toward a slightly earthy, bittersweet finish. I noticed the same strange bitter off-flavor in their coffee stout. hopscotch (4591), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jan 13, 2003 Excellent Beer!
Warm alcohol, New England fruit and rich malt in the nose and flavor. Moderately sweet.
Beautiful, clear ruby hue. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel. Pillow-sof carbonation.
Sweet, alcoholic finish. I enjoyed this beer... maybe to excess. Thank God for designated drivers. acrdz (4386), Boulder, Colorado, USA Dec 7, 2007 Unfiltered and hazy dark amber and copper colored body with a frothy, thick head. Very strange nose of faint wet cardboard (again), some mineral and vegetable notes, but altogether it doesn’t smell very strong at all, it’s a very mild, almost nonexistent smell. The flavor consists of some light cherry and crystal malt qualities, and it sits thick and vinuous on the palate, but it’s under-carbonated and without any dominant malt body to play on, the most striking feature is the wet cardboard that Franklin’s seems to have in a lot of their beer. In the finish I get a turnip note, which I don’t think I’ve ever tasted in beer before. egajdzis (3021), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 25, 2004 Growler... Poured a hazy, brownish red color with a very small, and quickly diminishing off white head and a little lacing. Sweet and fruity, citrus hop aroma... a small amount of dry yeast? Bitter hops, alcohol, and a chewy and sweet caramel/butterscotch malt. Some spice, possibly nutmeg, and a little cinnamon.
