scraff (1672), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Dec 23, 2003 Released December 2003. My only complaint is that it was served in a 6 oz tasting glass. Should have been in a snifter with a few more ozs to boot. Anyway, deep Grand Canyon red color with clouds, nice off white lasting head. (nothing like lasting head)acheeem....Flavors and aroma of some tropical fruit mixed in with a few dark fruits, but blended in a rich cascade hop caramel nut crunch. Alcohol hardly detected at 10%. Sound interesting? Yeah...it was...and I loved every sip. Full bodied with pillow soft carbonation. An absolute winner from a MD brewpub that will make even more noise in 04. If only they bottled... hotchick (20), Delaware, USA Apr 25, 2004 ...poured a merky brownish dark brick red color with a small amount of filmy head. The aroma begins as a very well-aged apple cider and ends with a deep rounded caramel citrus tone...The smooth mouth feel is accompanied by a sweet, malty yet pleasantly hoppy taste. Overall, this beer is very well-rounded and extremely enjoyable. kmweaver (2125), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Dec 20, 2006 Draft, at Franklins; listed as 9.5%. Cloudy, dark reddish-orange appearance; off-white head with good retention and lacing. Plenty of maply syrup and floral / citrus hops in the aroma; oddly, I’m getting hints of plastic and a slightly lactic quality. Medium-to-full, balanced mouthfeel: plenty of sugar and maple syrup maltiness backing things up, with generous amounts of chewy, citrus hops upfront; good levels of carbonation, very tasty young, though this would age well. Slightly bitter finish, showing citrus and floral hops. hopscotch (4591), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jan 13, 2003 Excellent Beer!
Warm alcohol, New England fruit and rich malt in the nose and flavor. Moderately sweet.
Beautiful, clear ruby hue. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel. Pillow-sof carbonation.
Sweet, alcoholic finish. I enjoyed this beer... maybe to excess. Thank God for designated drivers. wilkie (1092), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Feb 18, 2007 Draught. Murky brown, small lacy head. Aroma is very hoppy, citrusy, and malty. Flavor is similar, nice bitter finish, alcohol in aftertaste. More like an imperial IPA than barleywine.
