punkrkr27 (322), Clawson, Michigan, USA Feb 4, 2008 Hazy brown pour with a thin white ring of head. Straw and malts in the aroma. Very strong vegetal wheat flavor (in a good way) and light sweetness on the finish. Medium body with minimal carbonation. acrdz (4131), Pennsylvania, USA Dec 7, 2007 Pours a dark and hazy rust colored brown body with a smallish tan head. The nose is straight cereal grains and munich-like dark malts, with some dusty and ashy dried wood notes as well. Wet up front, it turns moderately thin and ashy over the middle before finishing with a bit of wet cardboard, but the dominant flavor are the chewy malt and grape-nuts-like cracked cereal grains. Decent, not terrible by any means, but unexciting and lacking vividness and freshness (apparent freshness, I should say, since this didn’t taste old or aged or any of that) which is what I like to find in mild ale. Styles (1653), Taylor, Michigan, USA Oct 13, 2007 Growler sample courtesy of artusory. Muddy orange, off-white head. aroma had a strong cooked cauliflower character, with faint floral notes. Flavor much the same, with a big earthy/hay finish. Not a big fan of milds anyway. lamas (573), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA Sep 29, 2007 On tap. A reddish pour with virtually no head at all. Herbal aroma. Smells like iced tea. The usual thin and watery body that has become far too standard at Franklin’s. Herbal iced tea taste. Decent balance. Moderately crisp finish. Growler: The aroma is flowery, almost perfumey, with some light pine and a hint of fruit. It pours a hazy orangish-brown with a small white head. The flavor starts rather light with faint fruit. The finish has moderate flowery and piney bitterness.
