Dark brown color with a bit of a red hue and a big tan head. Spicy aroma with a distinct banana flavor. Some clove and cinnamon like flavors as well. The finish is pretty sweet. Full bodied long lasting beer. altacyr (144), Campinas, Brazil

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 4, 2008 Poured from bottle a hazy burnt caramel color with large light-tan head. Much like the blond hefe Franziskaner, the aroma is nice with yeast, clove, banana, to a lesser degree - bubblegum and more caramel malt. The flavor is a more subdued banana and bubblegum with a stronger caramel toasted bread combo taking over. The palate has a nice spiciness to it with plenty of carbonation to sizzle the tongue and a mild sweetness. Overall a very nice beer with a good taste and aroma profile. I could drink a lot of these. gerzm22 (107), , Florida, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 30, 2008 Poured a hazy dark amber/caramel color. There were bits of sediment suspended in the glass. There was a tall foamy off-white head that reduced slowly. As the head went down you could hear the bubbles popping. The head eventually disappeared to just a film. There wqas a bit of a spice aroma with a mix of a light caramel scent.Initially there was good carbonation and a big alcohol taste with an underneath sweetness. The finish was rather mild. Cloudy brown with a big, slowly-diminishing, beige head. Aroma of banana, lots of clove, caramel and bread. Sweet flavor with some toasted malt, bread, wheat, fruits, caramel, some spiciness and light toffee notes. Medium-bodied. A very pleasant Dunkelweizen. g2bfry (49), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 29, 2008 Pours quite dark brown with full opacity. A full creamy tan head emerges and although it fades quickly, a film of foam persists throughout consumption. Lace is heavy upon a drink, then falls quickly. A fairly light scent gives off a fresh banana tone. The taste is pleasant and not very overpowering, and body is medium light. Flavor indeed quite similar to the scent, with a nice banana taste and some fresh sourdough bread connotations. Finish is light and sour. tarheels86 (808), Washington DC, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Pours a hazy dark amber with a perfect, fluffy off-white head that sticks around. Aroma of dark fruits, yeast, and cloves. Taste is strange. Begins like normal Franziskaner with some higher than average bubbliness and banana notes but then turns a light sour with a somewhat watery, bland aftertaste. No lacing. Strange that this is the dark version of Franziskaner but is more watery and muted than the normal hefeweisen.
