sound67 (157), Offenbach, Germany Oct 25, 2009 50cl brown bottle, as shown. Pours a hazy, pale yellow golden with a big, fluffy white head that collapses quickly.
Aroma of banana, citrus and herbal spices. Active carbonation, medium-bodied weizen. Good mouthfeel.
Taste is dominated by sweet banana, very typical for a Bavarian hefe. A healthy citrus note prevents this brew from being cloying. Spicy, dry finish and herbal after taste.
One of the signature mainstream hefe beers from "down under": very well balanced, at once, supremely quaffable and quite characterful. If this kind of weizen is too banana-ish for you, try the Belgian variety like "Hoegaarden" - their beers are usually drier and more citrusy. Otherwise, Franziskaner is one of the best! Sammer (23), Plano, Texas, USA Oct 23, 2009 Just an excellent hefe. If hefe or wheat beers are one of your favorites, this is a must try. Typical cloudy golden pour (from bottle). Fruity, bananaish taste. Smooth finish. jebert (110), Watertown, Wisconsin, USA Oct 22, 2009 Pours a cloudy golden color with a medium sized white head with nice carbonation. Nose is citrus and spices. Mouthfeel is very creamy and medium bodied. Taste is wheat, citrus and spice. No bitterness, lightly hopped. A fine weissbier that pairs well with cheese, fruit, poultry or fish. darrennelson12 (11), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Oct 22, 2009 On tap; great great. Aroma of banana and spice. Great medium bodied taste with the same strong banana and spice notes. One of my favorite wheat beers. Not as good in bottle; would rate in bottle lower rakkasan (55), Bresso, Italy Oct 21, 2009 Updated: Nov 8, 2009bottle - Typical Weizen - can detect a bit more spice in the nose than some others in its category - high accessibility also a plus. KyotoLefty (1370), Kyoto, Japan Oct 20, 2009 Bottle.
Cloudy as hell. Good head. Full aroma of malt, yeast, fruit (banana). Great rich taste, pretty sweet, medium to full body. Yeast and wheat malt finish,, long lasting. This is one of the great wheat beers.
popephred (193), Plainfield, Illinois, USA Oct 18, 2009 Poured from the bottle. Pour produced a hazy, golden-brown body, topped by a small white head, which diminished mostly, leaving small, islets of foam. Lemon citrus aroma, indicative of the style, with slight hints of spice (though I felt it could have used more) Crisp carbonation, with a watery body. Flavor is sweet-sour, with a a good citrus profile, though not much in the way of spice. The overall flavor drops off sharply, unexpectedly, leaving a flat aftertaste. Initially, this beer has a typical, if unassuming palate. The shortness of the profile, while making this a quaffing beer, do little to fit the style. jonno (538), Brisbane, Australia Oct 15, 2009 Good Hefe. Lots of clove and spices on the nose, banana a bit muted for the style. Medium bodied and good easy drinking without being cloying.
