Pronounced banana-clove aroma. Classic banana esters, smooth and easy drinking. Thicker and creamy, but has a dulled unfresh malt underlying character. Assumably pretty awesome fresh in Germany. Classic Hefeweizen, though hardly the best. Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Still, it had a voluptuous head with a strong, spicy nose (hints of citrus and even banana). Perfect balance of wheat and other flavours. I can see why this is a standard for the style. spkevin (59), Doetinchem, Netherlands

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2009 On tap into a 500 mL Franziskaner weizen. Pours a hazy gold with a two/three-finger white head that has great retention and a little lacing. Aroma of bubblegum, cloves, nutmeg, overripe bananas, sourdough malt, and a little apple cider vinegar. Flavor is similar but with a little too much sourdough malt and not enough bananas and spice. This was the first beer I ever had that broke me out of the macro pale lager world into the real ale world. I would consider this the hefeweizen standard.
