Franziskaner is the measure for this category by which I judge all other hefes. Aroma - wow! the wheat seems to be springing off the head right into your nose. Appearance - wonderful hazy yellow. Flavor - great wheaty taste - slightly lacking in citrus - however I tend to prefer this - you can add your own with a lemon if needed. Simply another great brew from the historical Spaten Brauerei. Probably the least cloudy hefe weissen I’ve had, its taste is muted compared to Paulaner or Weihenstaphaner. However, if I was introducing someone to this style of beer, this would probably be my choice, because it has a nice, even flavor and smooth feel. thegreenrooster (1842), St.louis, Missouri, USA

Flavor is like a nice fresh batch of banana’s. I also get lots of yeast and a very bitter flavor like lemon. Very smooth and drinkable and probably one of my favorite hefe’s. stubby (326), Santee, California, USA

A middle of the road industry standard, by which all others should be measured. Very nice spicy fruity nose and flavor. HOLD THE DAMN LEMON, PLEASE! ztrvz (218), st paul, Minnesota, USA

I thought I hit a fluke with the weihenstephaner hefe as a great german hefe, but this one is just as good. Really silky in texture. Flavor is deliciously refreshing. Good citrus and bubblegum. Extremely well balanced. RERATE, i think this is second to weihenstephaner for hefes out of the bottle. tons of delightlful esters. oli (108), Denmark
