Some tanginess I liked, too. Aroma is full of cloves. Pretty big body and an explosion of flavor.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 18, 2002 Poors like a golden mist with volcanic head (not kidding). The head was huge. I kep pouring a little bit more just to see the explosive reaction of the head. Surprisingly there was not too strong of a carbonation feel, but present nevertheless. Aroma was that of banana, cloves and hops with a slight hint of wheat and yeast that is common with this style. The flavor was unique. This is my first German wheat hefe, so the lack of citrus taste that is present in Widmer hefe caught me off guard but the smooth banana clove flavors took me to a good place. I drank almost the whole bottle just by doing the review! A nice wheat finish and true to the style. Well done! On my palate it was enriching, slight carbonation and a wheat feel, reminds me of eating oatmeal for some reason. Overall one of my favorite wheat beers now. I knew from everyone else’s reviews that I wouldn’t be disappointed. Gromit (462), Port Orchard, Washington, USA

But, of course, I mean that in a good way.
I think this is my first German hefe. I broke my self-imposed boycott of German products because it was on sale.
< hanging head in shame >
Pours very cloudy, very nice head and *lots* of carboneation. Smells of fruit; bananas and pears come to mind.
Taste is very good. I was expecting something more like a Widmer but I was pleasantly suprised. The fruit flavors really come alive.
It's very carbonated, my tongue seemed to bubble even after a couple of swallows hence.
This is a good beer. I also picked up the other version of this (starts with a D?) from the same brewery. I'm looking forward to comparing the two. ukoolaid (572), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA

The flavor was of crisp malt banana. And not just a little bit of banana. They may have disovled a whole banana in that bottle. I've never really liked super fruity beers, but I love bananas and this one was very different than a boring fruit beer like Magic Hat 9. Great beer. It is a quite pleasant draft. This time I sampled it from a 16.9 oz brown bottle. This beer poured a beautiful cloudy orange-golden color that whets the appetite with anticipation. The large white head has a slight orange tinge to it as well. There is a faint scent of orange peel. The scent is very pleasant but extremely faint. The flavor was very bready and yeasty. An orange peel flavor definitely shone through. A sweet yeasty aftertaste lingered. Overall a good hefeweizen - though a few still outshine it, you really can not go wrong with a Franzy. jlf278 (255), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA

Paulaner has a very similar hefe, which I silghtly prefer for its slightly stronger banana and weaker lemon tones. Nice cloves, smoothness, drinkability, refreshing. I’d take either hefe any day, though best in Summer.
