Commercial Description:
This ale is the first brewed in Kansas since pioneering days. The name "Ad Astra comes from the Kansas State Motto - Ad Astra per Aspera, Latin words meaning "To the Stars through Difficulties". We've blended Pale, Caramel, and Munich malts for a rich amber beer. The hops balance this malty sweetness, and we've chosen Northern brewer and Fuggles hops for their flavor.

I don’t normally like altbiers, but I liked this one. Good stuff. Since I usually avoid altbiers and don’t have a strong basis of comparison, I’ll dispense with the comments and keep it to a general "I liked it."

Draft at Barleys in OP, KS. Copper red in color. Not much head by the time I got it at the table. No memorable aroma, though a nice full malted barley taste. Decent bitter finish.

Draught: Mine poured a clear amber color that was tinged with red. It had a bit of an off-white head that left a decent amount of lacing down the glass. The aroma was a bit weak, while still nice. It was somewhat malty and a bit grassy. The taste was much better. A decent maly body without any real sweetness. A bit of a roastiness to it with a hint of coffee. A fair amount of biterness to it. This is really a decent brew.

Tap at Anchor, Wichita, KS. There is no smell to this beer. Pours tea brown with no head and little lacing. Tastes like a melted penny. Watery. Very bitter and metallic. Friggin’ crappy.

On draught at the brewpub. It pours clear medium ruby red in color with an off white head and lacing. Sweet malt nose with earthy notes. It has a balance malt flavor with an earthy hop flavor and bitterness. Nice and drinkable beer.

I like most Free State beers, so was suprised to find this one too skunky for me. It was fairly malty, with average off-white head. The body was fairly medium, and the mid and finish is very bitter.

Deep ruby. Nice malty aroma, munich, moderate hops. Clean yeast aroma. Moderate bitterness. Extremely malty, great munich character. Solid bitterness. This is really nice and extremely drinkable. Thanks to my neighbor Brett for sharing a growler with me.

Nice, this was a refreshing beer that kind of took me aback. Lots of malt and lots of fruit, but none of them compete for being overpowering. This is just a good solid easy to drink beer.
