Commercial Description:
This ale is the first brewed in Kansas since pioneering days. The name "Ad Astra comes from the Kansas State Motto - Ad Astra per Aspera, Latin words meaning "To the Stars through Difficulties". We've blended Pale, Caramel, and Munich malts for a rich amber beer. The hops balance this malty sweetness, and we've chosen Northern brewer and Fuggles hops for their flavor.

At the brewpub ... Dark red-copper with an adhesive side. Sweet malts and light caramels. Minor bittering finish. Good copper-ale style.

New stats. O.G. 13/1064. 25IBU. Tasted from a 5oz sample. Reddish, clear color with an off white head. I couldn’t get a good idea of the head in the sample glass. This beer has a great nose. It is fruity, hoppy and it just keeps on coming. The beer has a great hops flavor that is fruity, but balanced. The beer seemed sweet and dry at once. Easy finish. I love this beer. A friend and I split a keg of it this summer at a 4 day music fest.

Samples at the brewpub. Fairly dark amber coloring with a small head and tons of lacing. The Aroma is a little bit of orange peel and some pepper spice. The taste is oranges and a little bit of fresh bread. Solid grapefruit comes out at the end.

Excellent altbier. Malty aroma and flavor, with nice, rich reddish-brown color. Nice aftertaste to go along with initial terrific flavor.

Amber-copper color with a modest hop bitterness. Good "safe" beer for the timid. Nothing special, but still quite drinkable.

Bright clear chestnut; little amber head, fast gone. Nose, after much sniffling, just yields a little liquorice - some roasted malts might be hinted at. Taste is a combination of well-roasted malts and a hidden, but present hoparoma - but all of it in a kind of low-key. Not very well-bodied; slightly velvety mouthfeel. Either I'm missing something, either there's not much ado in this beer...

Nice delicate flavor on this one. Creamy head that dissipates fairly quickly. Beautiful balance between hop bitterness and malt sweetness.
