Commercial Description:
This ale is the first brewed in Kansas since pioneering days. The name "Ad Astra comes from the Kansas State Motto - Ad Astra per Aspera, Latin words meaning "To the Stars through Difficulties". We've blended Pale, Caramel, and Munich malts for a rich amber beer. The hops balance this malty sweetness, and we've chosen Northern brewer and Fuggles hops for their flavor.

Excellent altbier. Malty aroma and flavor, with nice, rich reddish-brown color. Nice aftertaste to go along with initial terrific flavor.

A nice beer, and a good representation of its Alt style. Malty with some subtle hop balance, and a rich brownish color (without a doubt one of the best looking Free State brews). While not my favorite Free State brew, it’s easy- drinking (goes great with chili), and always a ’go to’ beer when nothing else on the menu grabs my attention.

Easy drinking---crisp and clean. A good beginning beer for those new to microbrews.

At the brewpub ... Dark red-copper with an adhesive side. Sweet malts and light caramels. Minor bittering finish. Good copper-ale style.

One of Free State's most drinkable beers, I waited until I tried it at the brewery (vs. a keg) to rate and am glad I did. After a bit, the spicy hops overwhelmed my palate. In moderation, this beer would be great accompanying a light meal or appetizers.

Deep ruby. Nice malty aroma, munich, moderate hops. Clean yeast aroma. Moderate bitterness. Extremely malty, great munich character. Solid bitterness. This is really nice and extremely drinkable. Thanks to my neighbor Brett for sharing a growler with me.

Nice delicate flavor on this one. Creamy head that dissipates fairly quickly. Beautiful balance between hop bitterness and malt sweetness.
