Commercial Description:
Black Jack Porter Baltic Porter is a somewhat blended style, popular in the countries bordering the Baltic Sea. It’s based on the English Porter style and strongly influenced by Russian Imperial Stouts. The resulting dark ale is stronger and more full bodied than a traditional Porter but doesn’t have the intensity of an Imperial Stout. What we have is a rich, malty beer with notes of chocolate and roast malt overtones. The flavor has been mellowed further by conditioning on a blend of French and American oak. Served unfiltered. O.G. 18.40/1074. Hops 30 IBUs

Molasses, chocolate, roasted malts in the herbal, floral aroma with a touch of red meat. Opaque brown with a lasting cover of fine-bubbled tan head. Lightly herbal, soy-like character to the sweet chocolatey, roasty flavour with some grassy hops. Medium-full body is very dry with a rich, velvety-smooth mouthfeel and gentle effervescence. An excellent strong porter, perhaps but doesn’t quite fit as a Baltic Porter for me. Bottle (from a growler) enjoyed with beerbuzzmontreal, MartinT, Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere.

Dark brown color with a ring of light brown lace. Sweet aroma of molasses and chocolate. Flavor of raosted malt, soy, molasses and chocolate with a bitter finish. Light body, liquorous texture and a soft carbonation. Huge thanks to csbosox for sending this !

Dark brown, gentle off-white ring. Salty and earthy nose is phosphoric in a boney way while having an appealing chocolate powder aspect. Dry and powdery palate unleashes more of that bone-like dryness under a coffee grain cover and meaty global character. Well contained alcohol overall with a smooth medium body that displays restrained carbonation. Good stuff. Thanks Denis!

Draft: Shadowed crimson. Dense gray-tan head. Influx of consistently-sized bubbles slowly surface. Roasted wood and burnt sugar nose. Hint of minerals, port, and burnt malt hulls. Tightly carbonated. Firm body. Opens with an edge of grainy roast with sporadic hints of softness. No fruity esters to speak of. Pronounced tandem of burnt toffee and hazelnuts augment the dryness while delicate notes of vanilla and dates cushion the firm body. Salty-accented tannins, along with more coffee roast, lengthen the dryness, which is soon deepened with a fudgelike thickness. Sound base of burnt malt hulls and woody dryness beautifully manage the richness in the finish as it closes with a blend of dark chocolate, molasses, and burnt toffee. Very nice initial take on the style.

Fairly dense light tan head. Black with hints of red highlights on the edges. The nose was a little weak but had wood, coffee and good malts. The taste was strang roasted coffee with hints of dark chocolate. There is a bite of floral hops. The mouthfeel was creamy. Very nice rendition of the style.

Dark, roasty, sweet and fruity aroma, some semi-sweet chocolate and cream along with notes of fruity hops, faint bourbon and caramel. Ebony in color with deep brown highlights, a fine creamy head and intricate lacing. Flavor profile is full, balanced and moderately complex with a hefty amount of dark malt sweetness up front, turning roasty and darkly fruity and finishes with a blend of lightly bitter tones and the omnipresent dark malt. Palate is smooth, expansive and gently warming with a full, rich body. An unmistakably American interpretation and a very tasty, well-executed beer overall.
