Commercial Description:
The latest evolution in beer styles has come from the West Coast where they don't believe that there is such a thing as 'too much hops'! The style is Imperial IPA and ours features 3 very potent American hop varieties, Columbus, Chinook and Cascade - hence the name C3. Hops are added at just about every stage of the process from the mash all the way through to a very generous 'dry hop'. This beer needs a lot of strength to support all those hops so note the high Original Gravity. O.G. - 19.85P/1082. Hops - 95 IBUs. (theoretical)

One of the big hits of the Great Taste of Midwest. This one had my whole group of hopheads buzzing. The aroma was a monster combo of grapefruit, some other exotic fruits and pine, like the Garden Of Eden must have smelled like, the taste was that enchanting aroma developed into a rich and hoppy nectar that was out of this world. Stunningly good, the best new hop Beer I tasted at the festival. My group wanted to know where they could get this, and I had to tell them that unless I heard different, I’m sure this stuff is not bottled, almost a sin

Really good IPA. Very strong flavor with a citrus-kick to it. Cloudy, amber color with lead head. Light bitter aftertaste completes the overall excellent Imperial IPA.

draft.. Poured a hazy orange color with a large white head. Aroma was heavy on hops with a nice sweet addition. The flavor on this was hop overload in a good way!! sticky resinous hoppy that slapped you in the face at the first drink and kept giving upper cuts throughout. there was a good amount of sweetness in this beer but it was no match for the amount of hoppiness. Medium mouthfeel with good carbonation and I could not detect an alcohol flavor at all but after 3 glasses of this I definitely knew it was there. Its been two days since I drank this and I can still taste the hops. Big thanks to Beerhandy for sharing this one with me.

GTM ’06 Draught. Very nice aroma but there’s something about the hop combination that wasn’t quite ideal. Perhaps it’s wet hop. Murky, reddish orange. Off-white head, somewhat lasting. Beautiful color. Raw, fresh, wet hop flavor...very nice. Restores my faith in the Free State Brewery.

Growler and served in my GI IPA tulip: A hazy and deep copper hue greets the beer geek topped by a small but tight frothy head which left good amount of lace on the glassware. The aroma is pure juicy hops, it is all there...pine, grapefruit, pear, lemongrass and aromatic notes with a fair amount of biscuity and Carmel vapors too.

The taste is much more in balanced than the nose let on. The citric, resin, pine, and peppery character is on display in tour de force however the malty and almost earthy yeast components are enough to provide a shocking easy to drink IIPA! The more I drank of this, the more I was colored impressed. The lingering astringent and resin aftertaste let me know this is still a very hoppy brew. The mouth feel is biting along the edge of the palate but smooth in the center with more than enough body to carry the flavors, oh the alcohol is so well hidden. A prime example of what a double IPA can be without going to extremes. Among the best of the genre! Get ya some if you can!!
(Many Many thanks TJ, it was all I could do from drinking the whole growler in one night)

GABF 2006. Top 5 IIPA @ the fest. The Californian way of brewing these beers has gotten to Kansas. Wish it would finalyy reach the South. Everything you want in a IIPA.

Super hops! Can’t go wrong with the c-hops. This is loaded with piney and citrusy hop character with a nice malt backbone. I had no idea it was 7.8%; didn’t taste too alcoholic at all. Outstanding.

Draft 16 oz. Pint Glass it is a hazy dull copper with a nice tight head that fades to a light lacing of lingering off white foam. The aroma is pine, citrus and dare I say skunk not light struck but a resiny sinsimilla type odor. The taste is sweet caramel malt until the explosion of hops does a palette overload and gives it an astringent dry finish. This is hop juice and not for non-hopheads, the intense hoppiness fills your mouth and really overwhelms the malt. The body is thick and almost chewy. It’s a very drinkable Double IPA, which is sure to please any hop lover
