Commercial Description:
This flavorful beer is made in the style of the India Pale Ale Style originally manufactured in Great Britain for their colonies in India, but with an American twist. The harsh travel that the beer had to survive required a strong, hoppy beer. The Hops and the high level of alcohol helped buffer the beer through its long travels. Made with flavorful and full bodied Pale Ale malt combined with a touch of caravienne for color and carapils for body, the rich flavor of this beer is matched and enhanced by a very generous portion of Centennial and Cascade hops. The Cascades give this beer its distinctive floral aroma and a uniquely American character.
O.G. - 14.5/1058. Hops - 48.5 IBUs.

Growler. Darkish amber body, beautiful offwhite head, fruity nose with a hint of grains. Fairly thin flavor, with fruits, finishing breadiness, some bitterness. Quaffable.

From a fresh growler provided to me by Matt, served in a standard pint glass: Yep, it is indeed copper hued with an initial good frothy head and left some lace upon the glass. The 2nd pour was more violent and produced a better head and lace.

The aroma has notes of grapefruit and apple esters, piney and spicy hops, carmel and bready malts and a hint of mineral water. The taste starts with a controlled citric bitterness and resiny midesection supported by a layer of toffee and grainy malts. Surprised by a fleeting nature of this beer where the finish is metallic and hop spiced, shorter than expected.

The mouth feel is moderately carbonated and as good body for the genre, again the finish is a bit to metallic considering it is not a hop bomb. No alcohol detected. All in all a solid brew that is not a big enamel scraping IPA. THANKS for the growler.

Thanks to Mreusch for a growler of this. Pous amber with small fluffy off white head. Aroma of hops and citrus. Nice hop flavor up front with some citrus hints followed by a sweet malt background. Good balance.

smells like clorox--yet somehow creamy in head, texture and taste. The nose masks the flavor os vanilla hidden withint, harsh finish.

8/03/2007: Free State Copperhead Pale Ale is amber brown in color and has a fine/creamy beige head. The aroma has a sharp ammonia quality to it making this beer a bit less than desirable than I would have hoped. However, the flavor helps to redeem this beer as creamy malt, vanilla, and a mild resin and citrus hop flavor and bitterness help to wash away the aroma. Overall this is a decent IPA that is probably quite tasty fresh from the tap...

Growler shared by alexsdad06 at the Cincinnati RateBeer Gathering. Thanks Brad! Rating #51 for this beer...

Thanks to hopdog for sharing this growler he got from mreucsch. Pours a lightly hazy orange/copper with a creamy off white lacing head. Aroma was floral, some citrus, grainy along with some caramel malt. Flavor was more on the earthy hop side of things along with some pine, grapefruit and caramel malt. The earthiness really set this one apart from other American IPA’s.

Growler acquired in trade with mreusch (thanks!). Poured a medium amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of pine, citrus and caramel. Tastes follow suit. Ligthly bitter with a medium sweetness. Not a ’typical’ American IPA, but drinkable none the less.

Growler sample at Cincy Ratebeer Gathering. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Solid smooth resin hoppy aroma. Medium body. Medium balanced bittersweet flavor with a medium smooth bitter finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable brew.
