Sour in flavor, but not in a fruit way, hops, Heavy malt, heavy palate. Almost reminds me of dark wine. Big thanks to Alexsdad06! Harsebrau (166), Kansas City, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 5, 2007 I had this from the tap at the brewpub. Was sharing a couple with my brother. I could not get any aroma what so ever. Had Grant give me his thoughts on the aroma as maybe I was having a bad day... Didn’t get anything elther. Probably being generous with the ’3’. Otherwise a fine beer. Amber-orange in color. Tanish head with good lacing. Pine, orange, grapefruit and malt flavor. Gregis (1133), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 15, 2007 On cask at the brewpub. I’ve had this a few times before on tap, and I’d have to give a slight nod to the cask version for its mouthfeel. Pours a hazy, amber-brown with a thin, creamy, beige head. Caramel malts with piny hops on the nose. Medium-bodied, creamy and smooth, finishing lightly bitter. The flavor is caramel malts with a solid, piny hop backing (considerably more than is on the nose). A nice beer, but it seems more like a solid APA than an IPA. I guess perhaps our definition of what constitutes an American IPA may have changed considerably since this beer won the silver medal at the WBC , in ’97. mreusch (741), Olathe, Kansas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 13, 2007 Cask @ FS, but have also had non-cask a few times; pours a cloudy amber/orange with a nice creamy tan head that persists throughout, excellent lacing. Aroma of piney hops and some light malts. A solid, well-balanced IPA that’s a bit on the lighter and mild side, but good nonetheless. theisti (1681), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 29, 2007 On tap at Papa Keno Pizza, Overland Park, Kansas. Pour is orangish amber with a medium to small off white head. Aroma is malty, and faint hoppiness in the background. Taste is a nice blend of the malt and pine hops, very balanced with a nice body. Overall a very nice drinking beer, though was a bit surprised to see it listed as an IPA. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 18, 2007 On cask at the brewpub - Pours amber / orange with a thick light tan head. The aroma has toasted malt, light hoppiness and a bit musty. Medium body with a bit of wateriness. The taste starts with woody / piny hops with toasted grainy malt. The finish is all woody hops and a bit of resin. A respectable IPA. Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 23, 2007 Consumed a pint of this stuff during a very tasty tasting hosted by Degarth (thanks Joe) and in the company of Quake1028. A big thanks to eboats for this tasty brew.
Poured clear copper in color with lasting thin tan head. Inviting aroma with sweet caramelized malts mixed with pine hops. The smell is sweet pine, which is odd when I think about it. The flavor starts sweet malts and pine that creates a sweet pine flavor much like the aroma. Then as the taste precedes the pine bitterness builds. Nice IPA. Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 21, 2007 HUGE thanks to eboats for bringing this down for us in Florida, and also to Degarth for giving us a place to sample.
Sampled from growler, served in a tulip. Pours a cloudy amber, off white, sudsy head. Aroma of citrus, pine, hops, earth, marijuana, grapefruit. Pine hops on the front of the tongue, citrus and bitter on the finish. Somewhat of a soapy characteristic as well.
