Commercial Description:
This very special beer was brewed as a Double Strength Imperial Stout. Imperial Stouts being very big beers to begin with, that puts this at the strength of a barleywine. The Original Gravity is 27.5 P/1118, then the hopping level is very hard to define, though there are enough hops to achieve 100 IBUs in a smaller beer, this beer still has a distinct sweetness due to a high percentage of unfermentable sugars. After fermentation, this beer was aged in old whiskey barrels from the McCormack’s bottling plant in Weston, MO, hence the name Owd Mac’s (owd being a British regional colloquialism for old).

22-oz. hand-bottled from tjthresh, thanks Tom. Pours opaque with a spare, fizzy, dark brown head, moslty diminishing, spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (molasses, caramel, chocolate, toasted), average hops (perfume), average yeast (dough) with notes of alcohol, plum, prune, cola and vanilla. Full bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation and a bitter finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, acidity and bitterness; nice toasted malt flavor with vanilla, bourbon, caramel and perfumey hops and ends with an alcohol burn.

Bourbon aroma is very overpowering. Black in color with no head. This brew has a full and creamy palate. Hot, hot, hot! 9.5%? This tastes like it is 15% The bourbon flavor dominates with some roasted malt detectable--but this seems too one dimensional for my liking.

Thanks Brian and Bruno!!!! I liked this beer quite a bit. Lots of bourbon and alcohol in the aroma with a little oak or wood coming through as well. The flavor had a nice mix chocolates, dark fruits, bourbon, vanilla, and maybe even a little smokey as well. Very good beer!!

Hand Bottle shared by bgburdman at C-Bus 6: Dark brown to black pour with a small tan head. Aroma, lots of bourbon, oak, alcohol, and some faint coffee. Flavor, much more subdued than aroma, coffee and chocolate are more prevalent with the bourbon, vanilla and oak notes, complementing rather than overpowering like they do in the nose. There is some heat, but it’s a nice full bodied stout. Good stuff.

Handbottled thanks to Henrikb, blind tasting together with 4 other Bourbon Barrel aged Stouts. A black beer with no head. The aroma is oxidized, alcoholic, licorice and some wood. The taste is the same but not as oxidized, but it taste old. Medium to full body with a light sweet alcoholic finish.

Tasted blind together with 4 other Bourbon Barrel aged Stouts - Handbottled by Kramer17801 - Dark brown body almost no head; Very oxidized nose, the oxidization overpowers all other aromas, lots of power and lots of alcohol; Huge soft body, almost no carbonation, bitter and a very little acidy; Looong finish with lots of alcohol and powerfull aromas, way to much Bourbon both in the way alcohol shows in a cheap Bourbon and aroma wise. Not really balanced and not very pleasant.

Handbottled (Thx. henrikb for shariing). Pitch black coloured. Small brown head. Ligth oxidated aroma. Is a bit medical and full of alcohol. Some chocolate and light roastyness. Flavour of liqourice, light roast, light chocolate and some herbal notes. Loads of barralnotes here. A bit too much for my likings. Medium bodied. Ends on a liqourice note with loads of alcoholwarmth on lips and palate. Tasted blind.

Pours sans head, extremely dark brown. The aroma is very strong of alcohol and chocolate, with perhaps a small, small hint of oatmeal. The appearance is right on for a stout. The flavor is somewhat dominated by the alcohol, but it is right on the verge of being a completely even mix of alcohol and chocolate. The palate is nice as well. Overall, not a bad beer.
