Commercial Description:
Cask; Seasonal - Autumn and Winter. Also available bottle conditioned.
Packed solid with malt, hops, and oats. Possibly the darkest stout of all time, a single varietal beer, made only with Fuggles hops, packed with bitterness, and brimming with aroma hopping, a deep and complex beer, worth taking some time over, and exploring the Hampton Court like maze of complex flavours. Initially, the dry, biscuit flavour of roast barley attacks the palate, soon to be replaced by the soothing Fuggles balm of rich smokiness, and then layer upon layer of malted oats, rich dark malts, and an unidentifiable eutectic finish of pure stout character.

From a bottle. Pours with a thick, viscous, oil quality. I anticipated the aroma and flavors. Little tan colored head. Walnuts, coffee and cream in the aroma. The flavor is subtle, but delicious. Some coffee, dark roasted coffee, cola and a little oats. Overall, this is an excellent stout. I am definitely going to buy this again.

This beer pours very dark and oily with a dense tan rocky head. The aroma is very nice, grainy malt with some sweetness but roasted malt and chocolate are predominant. The flavor is a big kick of bitter chocolate and a definite does of fuggles. I bought this without knowing that it was a top 100 beer and I am shocked at how good it is. The body is full and creamy. The aftertaste is a lingering chocolate-coffee concoction. Yum. The best stout I have had from the UK.

Motor oil black with huge thick brown head that leaves nice heavy lace. Smells strong of burnt coffee and chocolate. Taste is dark bitter chocolate yet still slightly sweet, not real sweet, just a hint. The coffee comes through after a bit and really gives a deep dark roast coffee blast all over the mouth, awesome stuff. The mouthfeel is nice and chewy, despite a beautiful head this has no stinging carbonation but rather a comforting creaminess that is extremely satisfying. **notes** The cap has a bottled on date of March 18, 2003 so that was 9 months ago. I also had this at room temperature which is about 63* F as per advice, and man was that the way to go. Super satisfying stuff. Definitely one of the best stouts I've ever had.

500 ml bottle conditioned real ale. Enormous thick tan head. Pitch black colour, even when held to the light. Very possibly the darkest beer in the world. Wonderful aroma of roasted malts, dark bitter chocolate, oak and cedarwood. Flavour is all smoked and heavily roasted malts and oats. A world class stout.

one of the best beers i've ever had, and certainly the best stout. so many tastes and smells that function independently and together. vanilla, smoke, roasty, warming, filling, smooth, rich, very drinkable and likeable. think sam smiths on steriods. please try to find this one!

Dark in colour with a rich brown chocolatey looking head. Lots of sweet malts that rolls around and smokey in the nose. THe taste is rich dark and heavy mixed with smoked parts. Bitter comes out strong in the end. Ovearll, quite good.
