| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 19, 2004 The aroma is of coffee, chocolate, prunes, and slightly sour. The color is black and it has a small chocolate brown head. The flavor is of roasted malt, coffee, and bitter chocolate. Before it ends on a fanatastic malt bitter note combined with coffee. The body is very soft. It is not thin, but I had hoped for more power. GreatStelle (360), Chico, California, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Feb 17, 2004 A very good stout. This rates up near the top in best stouts available. I was very nervous about the price ($5.00 a bottle) but it was well worth it. Loved the burnt smokey flavor. The chocolate and coffee were not over done. Just a perfect well rounded stout. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 16, 2004 Chocolate syrup languorously flowing on sweet black grapes...A bed of roasty malt, spiced with a slight hop finish, proudly displays its chewy prunes...A hint of espresso, a drop of milk and the deep intestinal and mental growl of satisfaction... | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 11, 2004 Updated: Mar 28, 2004Bottle-conditioned stout that looks like motor oil with a chocolate milk frothy and foamy head. Aroma is cacao and coffee beans with notes of vanilla. Deeply malty delicate nose. Taste is before anything very smooth, rich palate like this was an oatmeal stout. Chocolatey with enough roastiness to fit the style. Easy going all around with no acidity. Body is rich, velvety, silky, comfortable. Simply put, this is a real definition of well-crafted english stout. fiulijn (7420), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 9, 2004 Blond color; almost no head. Deep chocolate and liquorice aroma. Thick, oily, rich; malt, liquorice, roasted malt. Strong and long final. Lovely and powerful, close to the border with Imperial Stouts. fly (1332), austin, Tejas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 8, 2004 Nyow! Took a while to win over having had a brew prior, but that's rather amzing in tha this is rather amazing in its deep, deep roasted, very roasted character. Deep allright. On the sour side which is very nice. Dry, smoky, just not sure what to say but I like it. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 29, 2003 Opaque black body topped with a rich tan head. The aroma had chocolate and coffee and vanilla and was very inviting. The flavor was coffee and rich and creamy. Quite good. Syd (903), Waconia, Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 17, 2003 March 2003 bottle pours like used motor oil with a real nice brown head. The aroma is licorice, chocolate, coffee, and yeast. The flavor is roasty, malted, lactic, chocolate, coffee, and some tiny bitterness. The palate is rich, but not as rich as I thought it would be by the appearance. Overall, one fine Stout!
