Commercial Description:
Cask; Seasonal - Autumn and Winter. Also available bottle conditioned.
Packed solid with malt, hops, and oats. Possibly the darkest stout of all time, a single varietal beer, made only with Fuggles hops, packed with bitterness, and brimming with aroma hopping, a deep and complex beer, worth taking some time over, and exploring the Hampton Court like maze of complex flavours. Initially, the dry, biscuit flavour of roast barley attacks the palate, soon to be replaced by the soothing Fuggles balm of rich smokiness, and then layer upon layer of malted oats, rich dark malts, and an unidentifiable eutectic finish of pure stout character.

Bottle Conditioned, 500 ml. Black in colour with a Brown bubbly head. Thick glutinous beer, powdery and chalky with deep roasted flavours, chocolate bitterness and espresso coffee notes. A sipping beer with a challenge at every mouthful. Enjoyable but not massively so for my palate.

Bottle: Courtesy of kp via trade. Aroma has lots of chocolate, dark fruits, and some funky roasted coffee aromas. Pours a dark brown, virtually black, with a small tan head. Flavor has lots of chocolate, fruit, and finishes with roasted coffee Aroma hurts the overall score.

Bottle. Beautiful black color with a tight bubbled brown head. Aroma is smoky ash, and roasted malts, bittersweet chocolate and anise. Taste is more anise with a nice smoke flavor. Tart hops balance it all out. A really complex stout and one of the best I’ve had.

Big thanks goes out to Igneous1 for hooking me up with this. I’ve had it for a few months now, and have decided to crack it as a gift to myself ro doing well in college this semester. Pours a deep dark black body with a mocha coloured think and frothy head. Looks like liquified chocolate! Aromas are robust.....lots of espresso, chocolate, some molasses, mild hoppy aroma as well. Taste is sweet, well balanced. Coffee, chocolate, brown sugar, bready, complex! FInish is smooth and creamy. Alcohol not noticable! Easy to drink, dangerously drinkable. Well done! Thanks again Igneous1!

1 Pt 9oz bottle - Poured black with a slight brown head that settles around the edges of the glass. Aroma of roasted malt coffee and a touch of vanilla and smoke. Flavor begins roasty then some milk chocolate and the finish contains a touch of a licorice note. On the palate this is medium bodied. A touch watery for a stout. It feels good to drink though with a decent dry finish.

Bottle conditioned. Powerful aroma of roasted malts coffee ice cream with undertones of chocolate. Completely opaque black with a thin coffee colored head. The first sip had me smiling like an idiot. Starts with a roasted flavor moving swiftly into very Fuggles-characteristic bitterness. Fades beautifully into strong dark mocha malts and a lingering touch hops. Masterfully crafted and delicious all the way. Too bad there was only one bottle left at the store or I’d drink this every night.

A very opaque head on top of a pitch black brew. Huge roasted mallt nose with charcol and ink (yuk too much for me). Starts off very roasted, then some ink and almost acidic mouthfeel and very faint milk chocolate and a dry roasted finish.

20.may.05 Cap says "bottled 18 March 03". smells of bittersweet baker’s cocoa, salty licorice; extremely dark, with a dense, dark head. reminds me of Bell’s Third Coast (?), but a little less sweet, a little more nuanced. tastes of coffee and shortbread; has a little bit of a chalky texture. Very good. Thanks, BT.
